Man invents contraption to help save small wild animals from drowning in pools

As summer ramps up, most of us dream of having a pool in our garden. And for the lucky few that do, the poolside becomes the place to be on the scorching hot days.

But for small wild animals, the poolside is the last place they want to be.

Unfortunately, it’s not always easy for the likes of frogs, squirrels and ducklings to understand the dangers of swimming pools and avoid them – and that’s how so many end up falling in.

Wildlife biologist Rich Mason had never even considered the danger of swimming pools to these animals.

But he had some friends who owned pools, and they began calling him to tell him that frogs were dying in the water.

He wrote:

“One morning, after a warm rainy night, an astonishing 53 frogs and toads were found in the pool. I spoke with other friends with swimming pools who also said frogs are regularly found in their pools. In addition to frogs, there was the occasional mole, mouse, baby bird, opossum, turtle, salamander, squirrel, bat, chipmunk, and more.”

Wildlife conservation was something Mason was passionate about, and he realized that he now had a major opportunity to do something good.

After researching online and finding nothing suitable, he knew that he had to provide an animal-rescue solution for millions of pool owners across America.

After lots of thought, research, and design work, Mason’s invention was finished. He called it the FrogLog.

The FrogLog is a floating device that sits at the edge of a pool, connecting to the ground with mesh fabric that acts as an escape ramp.

Animals up to 1 lb can be saved by the FrogLog – they simply need to pull themselves onto the floating platform and climb out.

Mason gave prototypes to friends to test out, and his product was an instant success.

The FrogLog is now available on Amazon, and it already has an average of 4.5 stars from more than 5,000 ratings.

The reviews section is a pretty entertaining place to be if you’re a fan of wild animals.

One person shared a picture of a group of frogs hanging out on their FrogLog, writing:

“So I really didn’t think this thing would work, but I put it in anyway, apparently the frogs think it’s a pool party now and have invited all there friends, so I ordered another! There are 7 frogs on it and it’s only been in the pool for a couple hours”

Someone else shared a picture of a rabbit sitting on their FrogLog, writing:

We have had this in the pool all summer and have had no critters lost. Normally there were 2 or 3 frogs a week, but none this year. It helps all kinds of animals. My wife took this picture of a baby rabbit it saved today. We lifted it out and it hopped away. Great product.

Others have shared pictures of snakes, chipmunks, moles, ducklings, and lizards safely sat on the FrogLog.

The device might have been intended to help frogs, but it’s helping plenty of other animals, too.
