The Boogie Man himself nails “Boogie Woogie” on the piano

The Boogeyman.

The Boogeyman is a famous mythical being whose fabled existence stretches across many cultures.

This entity takes many forms, which vary from household to household because parents invent their own version of the scary beast-man who will punish their children if they misbehave.

In pop culture, the term Boogeyman has recently become associated with the ultra-cool John Wick.

As his primary enemy in the first film says,

“Well, John wasn’t exactly the boogeyman.”

No, he was sent to get rid of him.

Meanwhile, there are many people who work against pop culture to preserve their own meaning in the word Boogie.

Take Tommy Johnson, for instance, he is the “Boogie Man”, but he’s not out to scare anyone.

Actually, much to the contrary, he’s out to delight people! The man has world-famous piano skills and his mission is to spread his talent for Boogie tunes far and wide.

But how is he so good?

Well, he began teaching himself to play the piano at the age of four. And at the age of just seven, he made his public debut on The Horace Heidt Show. At nine, Tommy was featured in Life Magazine!

Tommy has since performed on many, many cruise ships and has appeared as the concert artist for some of the biggest piano companies in the world.

In 1980 he made it to the top four in the World Keyboard Entertainer Search.

He says on his Facebook page,

“My intention is to take people of all ages on a magical musical tour where they can forget their everyday troubles and woes and find happiness for an hour or two either in concert or with my CD’s. I am eternally grateful for the gift given to me and I want to share it with you.“

And he has surely succeeded in his mission.

Mr. Johnson apparently has magic fingers. This video of his lightning-fast, yet buttery smooth playing style displays just how much Boogie this man has got.

The man is smooth, and he plays with an almost reckless abandon but always maintains his composure. Viewers can’t get enough!

“I wonder what musicians like Mozart and Chopin would think of piano playing like this. Absolutely amazing!”

This video has collected over 6.3 million views!

Boogie-woogie became popular in the 1920s.

Born in the 1870s in African-American communities it soon spread and became popular among dancers everywhere.

Watching him play might make you feel like you could plop yourself down on a piano bench and tickle the ivories just like Tommy. But, I assure you, while this music may sometimes seem like random key smashing, every note is part of a calculated plan.

The best part of this boogie-woogie may be the two individuals who repeatedly tell him to go, “faster”, to which the master obliges.

It results in an unreal pace and in the end Tommy even has a bit of fun pretending to pant and gasp for air as soon as he’s done playing. What a truly awesome musician.
