Every child deserves to have two loving supportive parents. Sadly, not every child gets this. One man is trying to help kids without fathers.

Rob Kenney was just 12 years old when his father walked out on him and his brothers and his sisters.

They would never hear from him again. Understandably, this had a terrible impact on Kenney and his siblings.

Luckily, Kenney was able, with the support of his elder siblings, to overcome the pain of having a parent abandon him.

Today, he has a wife and two kids. From the day he learned that he was going to have a child, he was determined to be much more of a father than his own dad had been.

He promised to never abandon his children and to help them whenever they needed support.

Kenney was true to his word. His son and daughter, Kristine and Kyle, are now both fully grown and have careers of their own. They both credit their father as being instrumental in making them succeed.

But Kenney’s fathering was not easy. Lots of the stuff that his own father should have taught him he had to research himself.

And after both of his kids had moved out, Kenney thought about the other children out there who were going through what he had been through. They didn’t have fathers to teach them essential life skills. In fact, some were in an even worse place than he had been. At least he had had older siblings to help him with things.

So Kenney realized that, as an empty nester, he now had the time to teach fatherless kids essential life lessons.

So he started the YouTube channel Dad, how do I? He then brainstormed the kinds of things that he thought that fatherless kids, teenagers and young adults would need to know.

Pretty soon, he had made his first video, How to tie a tie

As well as teaching the basics of tieing a tie, the video was filled with helpful bits of advice, such as, if your tie ends above the waist, that’s dorky.

He uploaded the video, and saw that it was getting some views and appreciative comments. So he uploaded another video.

This video went through the essentials of face shaving. The video also started getting some good views. So Kenney uploaded another video, and then another.

And then something incredible happened. The internet started falling in love with Kenney.

Soon, a magazine interviewed Kenney. They asked him why he was making the videos, and his story came to light. This led to even more appreciation from people all over the world.

Soon, Kenney’s videos were going viral. People online can rarely agree on anything. But everyone seems to love Kenney.

Then Kenney uploaded what would become his most successful video of all time, to date.

In the video, Kenney thanked all of the people for sharing how much they had enjoyed his videos and all of the stories they had shared.

He also explained some of his guiding principals.

“I’d like to end just by saying there’s a song by one of my favorite bands, Switchfoot, and they say, ‘Is this the world you want? Well, you’re making it every day you’re alive.’ And I really take that to heart, because it is true. If we all each did our own little bit, man, the world would be such a better place.” – Rob Kenney.

This video only further reinforced what the world already knew: that Kenney is an amazing person.

He will keep on uploading videos to Dad, how do I? and will surely become a role model for us all.
