It was the 23rd of February, and with a storm on the horizon, dad Jesse knew that time was of the essence.

“Instantly I panicked,” Jesse told FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul.

“I have a two-year-old here, a newborn coming home in a couple of days and this was before the big potential snowstorm.”

Jesse Hulscher posted on Facebook saying,

“With the nice weather recently we filled our Hulscher foursome! Welcome to the tee (and the world) Adler Stephen Hulscher…”

Maria was still in the hospital with Adler, leaving Jesse to deal with the situation on his own.

He called Magnuson Sheet Metal, a local company, hoping for a quick and inexpensive fix.

Jesse couldn’t keep his emotions in check as he told the man on the phone about his situation. Because of his excitement about the new baby and his fears about the snowstorm.

“He said ‘the fan’s not working, the furnace isn’t working, my wife is in the hospital, we just had a baby yesterday,’” Magnuson co-owner Craig Aurand recalled.

“I just said take it easy, we’ll be right there.”

Magnuson dispatched a worker to repair the furnace that very morning, and everything was back to normal within an hour.

Jesse and Maria both exhaled a sigh of relief. The only thing left to do was pay the bill.

But the couple was in for a surprise when the invoice arrived in the mail!

“I opened it up and looked at the receipt and it said, ‘no charge, take care of the new baby,’” Jesse remembered.

“I was like, what? No. This can’t be real. And he’s like, ‘I know I can’t believe it either,’” Maria explained.

Jesse and Maria were so moved by the small business’ generosity. Then they decided to post the invoice on Jesse’s Facebook page to express their gratitude.

Within a few days, it had gone viral, with over 4K reactions and hundreds of shares.

“Can’t thank them enough for the great service, speedy response time and amazing technicians. Businesses like this earn customers for life!” Jesse wrote in his post.

Despite the positive hype, the owners of Magnuson Sheet Metal remain humble about their generosity.

“We didn’t do it for the PR, we just did it to be good people. That’s it. Just to be nice to these people,” Craig shared.

“That’s what this is about.”

Many commended the natural kindness of the co-owner.

One person left a comment saying,

“The invoice is from Willmar MN! There sure are not a lot of folks like that! Thank you for helping the new dad and his family and showing us what kindness is!”

While this person had the same experience.

“I’ve had a similar experience working with Craig and the Magnuson Team! They always went above and beyond for me. They have high integrity and understand the importance of lifetime customers. Bravo!!!”

More people like Craig are desperately needed in this world!
