It’s not every day that someone takes the opportunity to do something kind for a stranger, but when it happens, it really feels like magic.

When a man named Brandon McNamee was driving on the highway in Missouri, he saw an older woman on the side of the road, sticking her thumb out. It was freezing cold outside, she wasn’t wearing a proper winter jacket and she was clearly looking for someone to help her out by giving her a ride.

“This lady is really standing here with her thumb out on the side of the highway,” Brandon said in a video.

After noticing the woman, Brandon decided to do something nice for a stranger and take her to wherever she needed to go. He wasn’t going around picking up hitchhikers very often but he thought that day would be the day he would take a chance. He really felt for her when he saw her there in the cold — it was only 19 degrees outside.

When the woman happily boarded his car, the two got to talking and Brandon soon learned that the woman’s name was Kim and her car had broken down so she had no other way to get to work. She wasn’t in the right place financially to afford a new car.

Kim wasn’t complaining though. She was handling her situation as best as she could. She’d wake up hours earlier than she needed to in order to either walk to work or find a stranger to give her a ride. She was doing what she needed to do.

So then Brandon dropped Kim off at Wendy’s, where she works, and you probably think the story ends there… Well, it doesn’t.

As Brandon was driving away after dropping her off, he felt the need to do something more. After learning about her current situation, he shared what had happened via his Facebook.

He knew he was able to take it one step further and help her out a little bit more, so his Facebook friends encouraged him to raise money to purchase an Uber gift card for Kim. With a gift like that, she wouldn’t have to wake up hours earlier every day just to go work.

Amazingly enough, it took less than an hour to raise enough money to get a gift card for Kim, so just a few hours later, it was back to Wendy’s for Brandon.

When Kim saw Brandon walk in, she was obviously taken by surprise.

He explained:

“We got you a gift card to Uber right there for $100… And then I know that you said your car costs $200 to fix. Here’s the $200 for the transmission… and then, here’s another $200 in case, you know, anything else comes up.”

When Kim realized what Brandon was giving her, she barely had any words. She was in pure shock and was moved to tears. It was such a kind gesture, there’s no way Kim will ever forget that moment.

And Brandon and his friends helped lift so much stress and weight off of her shoulders.

Kind gestures like these really do mean so much. The world isn’t always so bad after all, with people like Brandon and Kim!
