Man shows how he opens a watermelon using only a quarter
Normally, when you cut a watermelon, you use a large kitchen knife. In fact, there are many ways you can cut a watermelon using a knife, including cutting it into smaller wedges, cubes, and even removing the whole rind of the melon. But what do you do if you donβt have a knife?
Well, according to Crazy Russian Hacker, all you need is a quarter. He even made a video to prove it.
All you need is a quarter
In the video, YouTube personality Crazy Russian Hacker talks about how you can easily cut a watermelon in half with the aid of a simple quarter. And while he makes it sound easier than it looks, a watch of the video shows that it is possible, albeit not as simple as he makes it seem.
Picking the best watermelon
The first thing to do is pick a good candidate for this trick. A small watermelon should be easy enough. Keep in mind that the larger the watermelon you pick, the longer it will take you to cut it in half. Start by washing your chosen melon and placing it on a sturdy surface.
Grab your chosen cutting utensil
Next, you will need a regular quarter. Just make sure to clean the quarter thoroughly as you will be using it to cut the watermelon. It doesnβt really matter if the quarter is old or new, only that it is clean. Now, get your arm ready, because you are getting ready to cut.
Be prepared for a workout
Start by laying the edge of the quarter against the skin of the watermelon. Using one hand to hold it in place, smack the edge of the quarter with your other hand. This should be enough force for the quarter to penetrate the thick, outer skin of the melon.
You might need to repeat this step to make sure that the quarter is in the melon. Once the quarter is sticking out about halfway begin spinning the quarter, using the edge to continue to cut through the skin.
Continue to spin the quarter and use it to cut around the middle of the watermelon. Keep in mind, this step might take some time seeing as the skin of a watermelon is pretty thick and you are using a dull quarter to cut it.
Give the watermelon a good old karate chop
Once you have cut all the way around the watermelon, set the cut melon on a hard, stable surface. Next, give the melon a karate chop on the cut you have made. If you have cut the melon correctly and cut through the outer skin, the melon should split right in half.
Keep in mind, you might need to use several karate chops to split the watermelon in this way. When you are done, you will have two melon halves. You can either serve as is, or use a knife to cut the watermelon even further.
