Kind man doesn't have kids of his own but pays off lunch debts for every child in 9 schools

Hey everyone…Bryant and Jenni here. This is such a great story we had to share. Hope you enjoy it.

Recently, there’s been a lot of news stories about schools throughout the country making kids go hungry because they owe lunch money. Especially for low-income families, this is beyond heartbreaking. These kids are often teased and bullied, making a bad situation worse.

One man in Florida decided to do something to make things better for nine schools. Although Andrew Levy doesn’t have any kids of his own, he wanted to make sure that students would always have a hot, delicious meal at school. His generosity wasn’t for just one day, but for many to come thanks to paying off debt.

Andrew’s a real estate agent with a super-sized heart.

After learning that children in nine schools in Jupiter were only getting a cheese sandwich due to past due lunch fees, Andrew stepped up to the plate by taking care of the debt. To Levy, that wasn’t going to cut it. As he explained, “Food is something that you shouldn’t have to think about. Children shouldn’t have to learn hungry. These children that were in debt were going to either not eat or they would get just cheese sandwiches, and I thought that was crazy.”

He couldn’t just stand by knowing that kids weren’t eating.

In all, Andrew paid $944. Although he’s only called Jupiter home for five years, he loves the community. When he found out about the situation in his town, he decided to act. “I thought, ‘You know something? If for a modest sum I could make that change, I’m gonna do it,”” And that’s exactly what he did.

Andrew considers what he did as nothing more than a kind gesture.

But others disagree. Quickly, word of his good deed spread like wildfire. It reached people across the globe, including Vietnam and the UK. In response, Andrew’s Facebook page received tons of comments from other community members asking how they too could help. Complete strangers were eager to pitch in. He said, “I even had some clients over the past 48 hours say, ‘You know something, I want to help, I want to give too.’”

He made a promise and kept it.

Andrew decided to start a GoFundMe campaign. The goal was to raise enough money every quarter to ensure that both students and parents never again have to worry about paying for a hot lunch. The first fundraising brought in the targeted amount of $2,500. But to Andrew, he wanted to reach beyond Jupiter to include the entire state of Florida.

Andrew explained the purpose of starting a GoFundMe campaign.

“Back in August, I read that lunch debt existed in the Jupiter School District that would prevent children from having a hot lunch. It might even prevent children from eating. This shocked me! I’ve been lucky enough never have to worry about food while in school, so I paid it off.”

Others can get involved too.

Andrew went on to say, “Now is your chance to help to make sure no child ever goes hungry again and has a hot lunch in school. Plus, they will never have to experience school-shaming that comes with it.” Although he’s never been in this kind of situation himself, he can’t imagine that kids today would be left with nothing…all because of a debt.

Andrew’s still running his GoFundMe fundraising efforts, which aren’t limited to people in Jupiter or Florida for that matter. Everyone is welcomed to make a donation and change a child’s life.
