Man built picnic table for squirrels in his yard – now, everyone wants one
COVID-19 pandemic has affected many people around the globe.
Our daily routines have changed amid the quarantine period and we have no choice but to stay at home.
Other businesses and jobs of many people have been affected too.
Thinking when things will go back to normal – still unpredictable.
Rick Kalinowski is one of these people.
He had to close his Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania plumbing and HVAC business.
Until one day,
He came up with a witty idea and it is not for him – it’s for the squirrels in his backyard.
Using scraps of wood, Ricky built a DIY picnic table for them. It is a perfect place for them to enjoy their nuts.
Rick just loves the squirrels so much – and he explains why.
In an interview with Ladbible, he talked about how the squirrels make him happy during these challenging times.
“I wake up at sunrise and have done for years, just to feed the squirrels and fill the bird feeders. I make my coffee, put on the morning news and watch everyone eat. I buy a variety of nuts and seeds for the squirrels along with fresh cut fruit, it brings me happiness especially during these uncertain times.”
His love for squirrels changed the game for him.
Unexpectedly, his creation reached thousands of people when Lucy Small shared a picture of his finished product on Twitter.
2 weeks of isolation and we're out here making picnic tables for squirrels because we're insane pic.twitter.com/8WfHwyJQA4

The tweet just gained 405,000 likes and 78,000 retweets. Great job, Rick!
Aside from these huge numbers, it is impressive that many people got inspired and made their version. They generously shared photos of them in response to Lucy’s tweet.
Here are some of them:
This one made it more comfortable for this cute squirrel as it has a backrest. Awesome!
Another Twitter user named Lana Stewart also shared a glimpse of the mid-century house she built for squirrels.
She captioned her tweet with, “We’re considering a picnic addition to our mid-century squirrel house now.”
As it has gone viral, the demand for Rick’s work is high.
So he made an Etsy online store.
After making 1,102 sales on the said e-commerce website and the demand is still getting much stronger, he decided to put up a website for his business – Squirrelly Treasure Co. It was also announced on their Facebook page.
“Hello Squirrelly Friends – we’re no longer on Etsy/taking orders on there – we are growing more and more each day – we’re very excited to announce our new website..”
From plainly caring for squirrels to having a thriving business – inspiring!
Though the quarantine period became a bit boring for him, Rick just made it productive using his creativity. That is why he deserves the success that he has been getting.
His story is just a reminder that it is not impossible to succeed even while the going is tough.
So while you’re stuck in the house right now, you might as well spend it wisely.
Now is the perfect time to have quality time with your family, read some good books or do anything that you are passionate about.
Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
