In 2010, a young American pianist, Dotan Negrin, decided he had been living for too long trying to realize the dreams of others.

That’s when he decided he should do something for himself as long as he was still young and passionate – before the ordinary life took over him.

And that’s when he decided to turn his life upside down and live his dream.

He created the project “Piano Around The World”, which practically involves him going to different places and playing the piano in the street.

Although this might sound scary and too risky to some, for Dotan it was his chance to explore the world, discover new places, and gain experiences he wouldn’t have the chance to otherwise.

“What I wanted was to live a life worth living and to go on an incredible adventure of discovery. And since then extraordinary things have happened to me,” he explains.

As he explains on his blog, although music is his main occupation, he has found several other means of earning money while on tour – since playing the piano in the street does not guarantee a standard salary.

Dotan also has a YouTube channel, where he uploads clips of him playing the piano in different parts of the world.

He often features other artists in these videos who happened to pass by and decided to accompany him in duets.

One of Dotan’s most popular videos is one that was filmed in a Paris street, where he had the chance to play along with a renowned artist, Frans Bak.

Bak is a Danish composer, saxophonist, and pianist, who has even composed music for Danish and American productions – he has also released several music albums.

So, a few years back, Dotan was just playing the piano in a Paris street, as usual, when a man approached him and started touching the keys, resulting in a jazz melody.

At first, the man was reluctant and he seemed a bit hesitant to interfere with Dotan’s music, but when he realized that the latter enjoyed this addition of his, he became more determined and started playing confidently.

While at first Dotan plays a repetitive pattern and Bak makes all the jazzy twists, the Danish pianist then moves on to Dotan’s left side and starts playing the repetitive pattern himself, letting Dotan “do his thing” on the other side of the keyboard.

Their music is incredibly soothing to the ear and people start gathering around them – watching as they reveal their skills on the keyboard.

Of course, some people don’t miss the chance to capture the unique moment on their mobiles, so that they can listen to the beautiful music later on again.

To many, it may seem weird how two people who don’t know each other and who are both improvising at the moment, can be so synchronized and come up with such awesome music.

Yet, it is soon made obvious that these two men speak the same language- music- and this makes them capable of creating such a beautiful piece of art.

Dotan’s video has garnered more than 4 million views to this day, and thousands of upvotes.

You can listen to the duet in the video below and we are sure you will enjoy it as much as we did!
