Man transforms feral dog with the power of love – saves him from being euthanized

Every animal deserves a chance at a life in a loving home – even dogs that may, at first, not seem like a good fit. Take Jimmy for example. He started life as a feral dog with little to no interaction with people. At first, he was hesitant to trust humans, but through the patience of Dr. Andy Mathis, Jimmy was able to turn his life around and get a new lease on life.

Jimmy had been found and taken to a shelter in Georgia. A feral dog, Jimmy was very scared and timid around humans. The shelter staff could hardly touch him without Jimmy pulling back from their touch. Unfortunately, Jimmy’s difficulty in accepting human contact left him vulnerable to being euthanized.

The shelter where Jimmy was being held would hold the occasional Pardons week. During this week, the shelter staff would try to get all of the animals into a forever home, or at the very least into foster care. A downside of this was that any animals left at the shelter after this time were usually deemed unadoptable and euthanized.

Jimmy’s time was almost up as the week would soon be drawing to an end. Fortunately, Dr. Mathis stepped in and decided to take a chance on him. Taking Jimmy into his care, Dr. Mathis worked patiently with him to get him accustomed to the touch of humans.

Dr. Mathis captured Jimmy’s transformation on video. In the video, which went on to get over 1 million views, Jimmy is seen pulling back from the shelter staff. Over time, he is seen growing accustomed to the touch of Dr. Mathis as he works patiently with the dog. By the end of the video, he is seen happily playing with other dogs and interacting with humans.

Sadly, Jimmy passed away

Sadly, Jimmy suddenly passed away due to complications with heartworms he had just a few days after the video of his transformation was posted – but at least he got to know what it was like to be loved before crossing the Rainbow Bridge. His joy is evident in the video as he learns to enjoy the touch of humans.

Dr. Mathis keeps the video up following Jimmy’s death

Dr. Mathis decided the keep the video up even after Jimmy’s death, stating, “When this was uploaded, I totally expected him to be around another 10 years not realizing that he would only be here a few more days. I decided to leave his video up. If it encourages someone to adopt, rescue, or foster a shelter pet, he [Jimmy] would want that.”

Here is the video of Jimmy’s miraculous transformation from feral pup into a loving dog.
