Man rescues baby goose and raises it for years after she’s rejected by her family

Mike Jivanjee was out on a boat ride one day with some friends on Lake Oswego, Oregon in 2014. He had no idea he’d be going home with a new best friend after that fateful trip.

When the group spotted a tiny gosling struggling in the water, surrounded by speed boats, they knew they had to intervene. The animal had nearly drowned but they scooped it up and managed to save it.

Then they went over to a nearby island to help reunite it with its family.

Geese rarely abandon their goslings, but this one had a bad foot. The friends watched as the family openly rejected the baby and they felt bad leaving it behind to die.

So Jivanjee decided to take the gosling home with him. He planned to take care of it until it learned to fly and then release it back into the wild to live out its life.

At first, he thought it was a male, so he named it Kyle.

But Kyle the Goose is a female – a female who now has 126,000+ Instagram followers.

Kyle learned how to fly and her human foster dad was proud to see her glide off into the distance one day, assuming that his job was done. Except Kyle came back.

She never stopped coming back.

He knew letting her go was the right thing to do – but Kyle had clearly made up her mind!
