Man saves stranded octopus and is astounded when it says 'thank you'
Some people think that animals don’t have the same feelings as humans, and while it’s true that they might not all experience the exact same emotions we do, there have been countless studies and stories that show our furry, feathered, and scaly friends can experience joy, pain, loyalty, fear, surprise, sadness, and so much more.
Animals feel, just like we do, and this story is another amazing example of that!
A man saw an octopus stranded on the beach and decided to help it out, but he certainly wasn’t expecting what happened next.
We all know that octopuses are some of the smartest creatures around. Scientists have been amazed by their problem-solving abilities and almost human-level brainpower in certain situations.
Highly adaptable and resourceful, octopuses have been seen using tools and even opening jars. Unfortunately, out in the wild, intelligence isn’t always enough to get by.
One little eight-tentacled critter found itself stranded after washing up onto the beach. The tide had gone out and the octopus was stuck in the sand, unable to get back to the ocean.
Luckily, the little guy was about to get some help from a friendly man who happened to be taking a stroll on the beach that very same day. The animal-loving man spotted the stranded octopus and decided to help out.
He grabbed a plastic jar and scooped the octopus out of the sand, being extra careful to ensure he didn’t harm the little creature in any way.
The octopus remained motionless as the man carried it back over to the water.
The man then gently released the octopus back into the water, where it belongs. But for the first few moments, we worry that the man might have been too late!
The octopus is barely moving, showing only minimal signs of life and looking quite unwell, all covered in sand.
Even when it’s back in the water, the creature doesn’t seem to have enough energy to swim away at first.
It takes a little bit of time for the octopus to adapt, but it eventually starts to show some signs of life once more! We gradually see the color coming back into its body as it camouflages itself against the sand, looking much more beautiful and alive than before.
It also starts to stretch out its tentacles again. It almost seems like it can’t quite believe its luck at being back in the water, taking its time to savor the moment.
We might expect the little guy to just swim away, but it has one last surprise in store for its rescuer!
Before fleeing the scene, the octopus swims over to the man and says ‘thank you’ by reaching out a tentacle and placing it on his shoe.
Like an old friend placing a hand on your shoulder or shaking your hand, the little octopus gave this man a kind gesture before setting off back into the sea.
The octopus lingers with its tentacle on the shoe for a little while before departing, and it’s such a cute little display of gratitude. Check it out for yourself in the clip down below.
