Jeff Simmons works long hours every week. He has a full-time job. And on weekends and evenings, he works as an artist.

It had taken Simmons years and years to establish himself as an artist. Eventually, he started to sell enough of his work to net himself a good bit of extra cash.

When Simmons had earned some good money through his craft, he decided to celebrate by spending some of the cash on washing his truck.

So he drove to the carwash. But before he washed his truck, something stopped him.

Christy Stevens was also at the location. She was distraught.

“She was wiping her eyes and crying, and I didn’t know what was going on.” – Jeff Simmons.

Stevens had learned from the mechanic that her tires were an immediate safety hazard. They were bald. This left her in a terrible predicament.

Stevens needed her car to drive her child to school and get to job interviews. But she didn’t have the money to replace the tires. What could she do?

Simmons saw what was happening. He could tell that Stevens was in a desperate place.

That was when Simmons did something amazing. He walked up to Stevens and told her that he would sort out her tires.

He would spend his extra income on her.

Simmons had been in Stevens’s shoes in the past. Of course, he wasn’t a single mom. But he did know what it was like to be unemployed and not have enough money to pay for essentials. His family had helped him out, but Stevens had no one, until he showed up.

“I got goosebumps. I just couldn’t believe somebody would be willing to do something like that.” – Christy Stevens.

So Simmons paid for the tires and told a grateful Stevens that he hoped this would help her get back on her feet.

But then the next day, Simmons drove over a nail. It blew out one of his tires.

He realized that he would need to spend some more money. At that point in time, it felt like he was being punished for doing good. But then things would start to turn his way.

Soon, a local news station had heard about Simmons’s good deed. So the news station and Simmons’s friend turned up at his art studio/garage.

Simmons’s friend announced that the news station had decided to award him $500, which she then presented to him.

Simmons was overwhelmed with happiness.

He didn’t help Stevens so that he could end up on TV or get even more money. But no one could deny that he deserved it!

Stevens also showed up to thank Simmons once more. The two hugged. They knew that they were now friends.

Simmons then spoke to the reporters. Unsurprisingly, he did not boast about himself. Instead, he encouraged others to be like him.

“It doesn’t matter where you sit financially. If you can make life easier for someone else, even if it’s for 10 or 15 minutes, it’s worth it.” – Jeff Simmons.

Right now, we all need to be like Jeff Simmons. Coronavirus is getting worse, and people all over the country need help. Sure, some people will whine about those who have lost jobs and say that those who are struggling due to coronavirus are lazy. But most people know that this is not the case. Hopefully, we as individuals and the government will be able to set our differences aside and help people in this desperate time.
