Man gives tour of his unique tiny home in the woods

Living in the city has its perks. You have all the things you need to make yourself live comfortably. However, a lot of people are left “unfulfilled”.

One man, who used to live in the city, packed his bags and lived off grid.

Living off grid has been an idea that became popular over the years. People who used to live in the city got tired of the daily hustle and bustle that they chose to live in a peaceful place where they can be one with nature. Most of these people cut off technology in their lives and chose to live sustainably.

One of them is Kris Harbour.

A few years ago, Kris Harbourā€™s daily routine consisted of waking up at five oā€™clock in the morning, taking the train for two hours to get to work, working from 9 to 5, and taking the train again to get home. Sure, he had his days off during the weekend. But, he never had enough time for himself or do things that he actually loves.

He lives in this never-ending cycle of working tirelessly five days a week and resting during the weekend. Others aren’t that lucky. There are some individuals who work from Monday to Saturday, so they spend Sunday bumming in their home to rest instead of going out.

For Kris, he had enough of.

ā€œI had a fairly normal life in London. A normal day job where Iā€™d get up, go to work, socialise on the weekends. It was kind of unfulfilling and I felt like I didnā€™t have enough time to do all the different things I wanted to do. I never had time to do them or I was too tired even if I did have time, and over the years it made me very unhappy.ā€

One day, he saw land for sale on eBay.

Thinking it was the universe telling him that he should proceed with his plans, he bought the eighteen acres of land in Wales and began to build his own home from scratch. Kris spent the next year and a half building his property in Wales. He used wood and mortar made of clay, sand, and straw to build his home.

He spent 1000 man-hours to build his dream home from scratch.

ā€œThere is some foam installation that isnā€™t natural in the roof. Then just things like screws, some pipes and fittings and things like that,ā€ said Kris

Once he was able to build his home, he quit his job and moved into his new home without looking back at his old life.

According to Kris, although he wasn’t earning as much, he believes that he has more money now. He doesn’t have to pay mortgages and bills unlike before. He doesn’t need grocery stores since he has fresh eggs.

Despite its primitive appearance, Kris’s home is actually very cozy and filled with modern appliances. He has wireless internet and a fully functioning stove. His home is also powered by hydro and solar power.

Despite the concerns of his viewers, Kris explains that the exterior of his home is sturdy and strong.

ā€œPeople have it in their heads that if you use wood with ingrain showing it will immediately rot and disintegrateā€¦and itā€™s just isnā€™t the case.ā€

The best part about it, Kris is happy with his new life.
