People are transforming old horse trailers into mobile campers and they’re beyond cool

Camper vans have never not been cute, but they’ve always been somewhat of a luxury thing. They’ve been around since the 60s, and they’re the go-to rides for folks who like to bring a little bit of home with them on the road.

But mobile homes, camper vans, and RVs are expensive.

Expensive problems usually breed clever solutions, though. This was definitely what British Columbia resident Fred Cote proved with this project of his.

Like many people, Fred liked the idea of a mobile camper. What he didn’t like was how expensive a relatively new one would cost. Nowadays, a mobile camper might cost you anywhere from $35,000 to about $300,000. They’re somewhat of a luxury, you might say.

So he made his own mobile camper.

Step 1 was to acquire an older, used, and most importantly, budget-friendly trailer. Thankfully, he had options. Horse trailers are common, reliable, and can be acquired second-hand. They’re also roomy enough for one person, so Fred looked and found one.

The one he found was a 1970s horse trailer, and it was worse for wear. It had a ton of rust, its panels were falling off, and it was barely keeping itself together.

This wasn’t a deal-breaker, though, considering that he sought a cheap one to work with in the first place.

He got to work almost immediately. Repairing a horse trailer isn’t easy, nor is turning into a livable mini-home. But he managed just fine in the end.

He fixed up the panels and windows first. Can’t have a mobile camper with no walls. This part of the project’s process would have involved lots of welding, polishing, and installing. Working on a rusty car is hard enough, imagine working on a trailer of this size!

Then came the painting and repairing of the interiors.

Fred had his work cut out for him, making the whole thing look good as new.

As for the color of paint he chose, Fred went with a nice, canary yellow.

It complimented the trailer very well, as did the furniture and curtains that he installed. Everything about it screamed “homely”. The curtains and little cushions were his little touches that completed the homey look.

By the end of it all, Fred had an adorable, roomy, and functional trailer home.

And to think that this thing used to lug horses around!

The finished product had a living area surrounded by windows with cute little curtains. The canary yellow’s sunny energy is nothing but pleasant to see, especially if you sit on one of the two couches he installed in there.

Sitting behind the couches is a little kitchen, complete with a sink and a stove. Imagine having coffee in this thing! Matter of fact, it looks perfect for it.

Fred Cote definitely did great on this little camper trailer, and he should be proud.

Now his camping trips are going to be a whole lot more fun, and he might just be the envy of some other campers.
