Man wakes up with 9 senior dogs every day before caring for his other rescues

One thing is for sure: it’s never boring nor calm in Steve Greig’s house.

He shares his home with no less than nine older dogs. More than that, though, he also extends his home (and the love it’s filled with) to all sorts of other animals in need as well.

For example, you’ll usually find Tofu the turkey hanging around in the front yard, the four chickens in the back, and an adorable rabbit jumping around wherever he likes. He even takes care of a piggy princess who answers to the name ‘Bikini’…and sleeps in her own bed, of course.

With nine senior dogs, four chickens, two dogs, one turkey, and one pig, Greig has been taking care of these pets as a tribute to his dog Wolfgang, who sadly passed away.

It’s definitely the nine older four-footers in the home that require the most attention, but Steve doesn’t mind giving them all the love, time and affection they need.

Recently, he showed us what his daily life at home looks like in a video for The Dodo, and the man is practically inseparable from his loving animals.

“I basically share my bed with nine senior dogs. The Irish wolfhound actually sleeps beside the bed. So I’m not entirely crazy,” he says with a laugh.

Their morning ritual is absolutely heartwarming and amazing to see.

Each day after they wake up, all of them head from the bedroom to the downstairs area in unison. It’s like an adorable animal train sleepily waddling down the stairs.

“Every day, we have the same ritual. We all head downstairs at the same time and then I’ve got to wake up Bikini.”

In an interview with TODAY, Greig explains just how much his his precious pig changed his life:

โ€œI brought her home and life has never been the same.โ€

The sight of Bikini sleeping in her own bed is just too adorable!

You can tell that she’s still in a dreamworld and doesn’t really want to get up.

With all of these animals in the home, it can be quite easy to lose track. Steve regularly makes sure that no one is missing and that everyone can get their food and water. Breakfast certainly takes a while to prepare!

“I feed everybody at the same time and just kind of get it over with all at once.”

Steve started adopting all of these pets that needed help and special needs back in 2013, after his dog Wolfgang passed away due to a car accident.

When a couple of months had passed, the now 55-year-old resident from Denver, Colorado wanted to fill his home with love again. He also felt the need to do good and help the ‘unadoptable’ animals who needed a forever home.

โ€œIt was just devastating,โ€ he said. โ€œAfter a few months, I finally decided I needed something good to come out of his death.โ€

Steve headed to his local animal shelter and decided to adopt the oldest dog, who also suffered from numerous health issues.

โ€œIt was so immediately healing that I knew this is just what I was supposed to do. From then on, I only adopted senior dogs,” he explains.

Then, the calls for help kept coming in and Steve just couldn’t say no.

“I heard about another one that needed a home and then another one, and I just kept expanding,โ€ he recalls.

His first adoption pet, who he named Eeyore, is still with him today.

โ€œHeโ€™s a tough little dog,โ€ he said about him.

Steve’s incredible life at home has definitely grabbed the attention of many, as he runs a wildly popular Instagram page where you can follow all of their adventures.

The man even published a children’s book, titled “The One & Only Wolfgang: From Pet Rescue To One Big Happy Family“.

โ€œItโ€™s just incredibly rewarding. These dogs get overlooked in shelters and they have so much light and love left in them,โ€ the animal lover says.

Steve has an enormous heart and, apparently, an endless supply of love to give all of the animals that come his way. It warms our heart to know that he’s caring for so many animals that otherwise wouldn’t know love.
