After bonding in lockdown, devoted man takes the plunge and marries his cat
We all know how close people are with their pets. Over the past few months, we’ve been spending more time at home and with our pets due to the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine. So, weâve been bonding with them more than we ever have before.
But one California man has bonded with his cat in an interesting new way.
Meet Scott Perry and his cat Olivia.
Perry rescued Olivia from a shelter back in 2015. When she first moved in, she was on the shy side and kept to herself. But, when Perryâs girlfriend moved out, Olivia seemed to have sensed that Perry needed a good friend. The two grew closer over the years.
Perry told People magazine, “My kitty has helped me stay sane during this lockdown. Pets allow us to have a warm, positive interaction with another living creature while we have to maintain distance from others. And I am sure that our furry friends have helped millions of others cope with this situation worldwide.â
Ever since theyâve been two peas in a pod. Perry says that during the pandemic, Olivia has been a constant source of comfort. So, thatâs when it hit him.
It was time. Olivia was âthe one.â
Perry decided to propose to Olivia and make her the Mrs. to raise money for the Best Friends Animal Society in Los Angeles. Perry says he knows that there are many other pets like Olivia who need good homes.
So, when Perry decided it was time, he popped the question. Olivia gladly accepted with a resounding âmeow.â
They did what all newly engaged couples do. They set up a wedding registry. But instead of registering for a new litter box or scratching post, well-wishers were asked to make a donation to the animal shelter. The goal was to raise $5,000 for the animal shelter that has been affected by the pandemic right in the middle of kitten season.
If people donât donate to the specific shelter where Olivia came from, Perry hopes that people will donate to their local animal shelter and commit to their pets – not necessarily in âmarriageâ form, but to raise awareness for the need for pet adoptions.
While their nuptials arenât legal, Perry says he hopes the wedding also raises awareness about how a shelter pet can make people happy – and how special it is to commit to pet adoption.
Olivia wore a wedding dress for her big day.
We donât know if she went with the traditional, something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue – but we do know she looked beautiful in her dress. We also arenât sure where they went on their honeymoon. That was top secret!
As far as we know, the wedding went off without a hitch! We didnât hear of anyone objecting.
People magazine reports that Perry didnât tell the Best Friends Animal Society about his fundraising efforts. While they do recognize this as a unique way to raise money for homeless pets, they donât exactly endorse âweddingsâ between people and their pets.
