This joyful puppy can’t stop wagging her tail and she sprints out of shelter with her new family

Meet Matilda, the happiest little pitbull you ever did see.

While pit bulls aren’t known for being particular joyful dogs, that’s just a stereotype. Just like any other dog, their demeanors are a result of their upbringing.

But despite getting a rough start to life, Matilda is a joyful pup.

After growing up as a stray on the streets in Georgia for the first two months of her life, she could very well be wary of humans. But this girl LOVES attention.

Even throughout her treatment for stomach worms and inflamed skin at the Douglas County Animal Shelter, she was always wagging her tail.

And because she was such a happy little soul, the staff naturally fell in love with the puppy. They called “nothing short of perfect.” For Matilda, every moment that someone is looking at her is the greatest moment ever.

Santina Sanders, a volunteer at Douglas County Animal Shelter, told The Dodo:

“She gave the most sweetest kisses. She was the cutest thing ever.”

Matila’s reputation as the happiest puppy also drew the attention of the rescue group Pibbles & More Animal Rescue. One of the group’s coordinators, Teresa Bowles-Chiofalo, decided to help the pitbull find a foster home so she’d have a better chance of getting adopted.

Foster puppies get more attention and socialization – and foster “parents” get to know animals and can warn potential adopters about any behavioral or health issues (or even just special quirks).

Bowles-Chiofalo headed to the shelter to pick up the pitbull and was charmed by the pup’s reaction to going to a new home.

Matilda was so excited to go for a ride that her tail didn’t stop wagging at all during the hour-and-a-half car ride.

“The dictionary definition of ‘joy’ is: ‘noun: a feeling of great pleasure and happiness’ This is the picture next to that definition in the dictionary. Matilda. She is pure, pure joy,” Pibbles & More Animal Rescue wrote on Facebook.

In fact, she found Matilda so irresistably cute that she pulled over her car multiple times just to give her a snuggle.

Kerrie Rich, Matilda’s foster mom was equally won over by the jubilant pup.

“She wags her tail so hard that she walks crooked,” Rich said.

There’s only one thing Matilda seems unhappy about – and that’s wearing a collar. The first time Rich strapped one on her, she was so disturbed that she stopped wagging her tail for the first time since they had met.

It was like an on/off switch – the minute she took the collar off, Matilda was happy again. Rich surmised that she might still have some irritation from her skin ailment around her neck, making the collar uncomfortable.

Aside from that issue, the happy pitbull made herself right at home with her foster family, happy to snuggle, play with the neighbor’s dogs, and even watch Rich’s son do his homework.

Matilda is also willing to have her antics captured on film. She runs up to the phone every time her mom tries to take a photo or video.

“She’s hilarious and I wish I could video everything,” Rich said. “But as soon as I pick up my phone, she runs right at me!”

It’s no surprise that this little girl has since found her forever home with a loving family.
