Matted cat gets extreme makeover, removing 2 pounds of fur – then gets adopted 2 days later

Saving a stray is a big deal for the animal itself. Strays are vulnerable to lots of dangers, including starvation, infections, and death – accidental or not. So, when someone comes across a stray, it’s a good idea to try and transfer it to a safe place rather than be indifferent towards its situation.

Pet rescuers, of course, are not obliged to take the animals they save home with them. That’s why there are lots of shelters dedicated to hosting rescues until they stand on their paws again.

So, when Julie from the Arizona Humane Society received a call about a stray that needed help, she rushed to it without giving it a second thought. When she arrived, she realized that the poor thing had so much matted fur, that she couldn’t even tell what it was.

She took it back to the AHS, where the staff prepared to remove the heavy matted fur that was burdening the animal.

After about an hour of shaving and grooming, they had removed two pounds of fur, which was one-fourth of the animal’s total weight.

“The 4-year-old cat, named Fluffer, was severely matted,” the AHS posted on social media, “so Julie transferred her to the AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital™… where she had 2 pounds of fur removed from her 8-pound body! “

And that’s when they saw that it was a sweet kitty!

Even though the process of grooming was long and painful, the feline patient didn’t resist or cause any problems; on the contrary, she was very cooperative and calm.

“She is an absolute sweetheart, so much so that she required no sedation during her procedure which is extremely unusual when caring for cats who are likely in pain,” AHS staff members told Bored Panda.

Once the whole thing was over, the vet staff faced a completely different animal that looked beautiful without the excess fur that had been covering it all this time.

Excited about it, they posted Fluffer’s story on Facebook and Instagram, and the posts were flooded with hundreds of likes and dozens of comments.

“Oh my Lord! How terrible! Thank you for saving this cats life,” someone wrote, while another user commented: “Omg!! That is the saddest thing ever […] poor baby! I hope he gets the besttt furever home asap! And learns the definition of REAL LOVE!”

It’s no wonder the sweet kitty was adopted only two days after she was rescued, and she is now happy in her new forever home with her caring and loving family.

The Arizona Humane Society has saved more than 100k animals like Fluffer over the last six years and made sure they were given away to responsible carers and safe environments. The AHS is privately funded and, therefore, always in need of donations in order to keep offering help to vulnerable strays.

It’s really touching that these people care so much about animals in need and we are glad this sweetheart will now have the chance to live a happy life in a caring home.
