Severely matted and neglected cat gets an emergency transformation

There’s no denying that animal medical technicians and veterinarians must’ve seen a lot of things in their careers.

But this is most definitely one of the most shocking things that technician Julie Bolchack has ever seen. As soon as she laid eyes on the poor neglected cat Fluffer, she knew that she needed immediate help.

It all started when Julie got a call back in May 2020, about a neglected animal.

She had no idea that Fluffer was a feline and certainly didn’t know what to expect.

Apparently, Fluffer’s owner recently passed away and there was absolutely no one to care for Fluffer, who was estimated to be about four years old.

Her hair had become extremely dirty and matted, and it was even difficult for her to be able to see. After Julie responded to the call, Fluffer was transferred to the Arizona Humane Society’s Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital, as she needed immediate medical help.

“I have seen some rather horrific cases in my time rescuing animals, but had never seen matting this bad – they were larger than her entire body,” the animal medical technician later said to People.

Julie isn’t just a medical technician, she also operates as an animal cruelty investigator.

There’s no denying that Fluffer must’ve been neglected and not properly taken care of, since her matted hair must’ve been a process that took years.

However, with Fluffer’s owner gone, the most important thing was to make sure she’d be healthy again.

Julie and her colleagues spent more than an hour getting rid of Fluffer’s matted fur.

Fluffer registered eight pounds on the scale when she first came in, and she was carrying over two pounds of matted fur.

More than a quarter of her body weight was removed after an hour of shaving, and the feline was completely unrecognizable afterward.

“She is an absolute sweetheart, so much so that she required no sedation during her procedure which is extremely unusual when caring for cats who are likely in pain,” Bretta Nelson, who works as a PR Manager at the Arizona Humane Society, later told Bored Panda.

With her matted fur gone, Fluffer became a completely different cat!

She was always very loveable and sweet, and she certainly didn’t mind receiving attention and get pampered from time to time.

When the Arizona Humane Society posted stories of the cat on their social media pages, they were basically overwhelmed by positive responses.

People simply couldn’t believe that a cat would be able to survive for so long.

Even though Fluffer still wasn’t perfectly fine and it would still take some time before her coat would be back to its regular shiny and smooth state, at least she wasn’t in any kind of danger anymore.

The calm and adorable cat is now residing with a loving and warm family who have promised to take very good care of her.
