Couple finds stacks of cash instead of food in their McDonald's drive-thru order
Hi there…it’s Bryant and Jenni. This feel-good story is too good not to share. Enjoy
When we’re in a hurry to grab a bite to eat, most of us head to the nearest fast-food restaurant. For a lot of people, that’s McDonald’s. Considering this chain has more than 100 million customers every day, it has to be something right. McDonald’s does have a variety of menu items, the prices are affordable, the employees are friendly, and for the most part, the service is fast.
But even the best employees don’t always get things right. Sometimes, customers leave without napkins, eating utensils, or condiments. Other times, they end up with a food item they didn’t order. For one Tennessee couple, their experience was a little different…well, it was actually a lot different. Instead of missing something from their order, they found a total surprise inside their bag.
The Terry family didn’t get the breakfast order they expected.
Stopping by a McDonalds one day to order breakfast, the couple didn’t think anything was out of the ordinary. That was until they left the drive-through and opened the bag. Inside there was zero food. In its place was a large bag of money – thousands of dollars in fact. The employee had accidentally put the deposit that was supposed to go to the bank inside the Terry’s bag.
Honesty is always the best policy.
While a small number of people might’ve considered this a windfall, the Terry’s knew they had to do the right thing. So, they turned around and headed back to the McDonalds. They went inside the restaurant to let the manager know what happened. As Stacy put it, “The second that he said it was their deposit, my first thing was to get in the car, let’s take it back. You know, there’s no other way to have it.”
The Terry’s couldn’t live with something like that on their conscience.
Come to find out, one employee noticed the money was missing almost immediately. Shaken, she ran after the Terry’s car but couldn’t get there quick enough. When they met the worker inside, Stacy said, “She was shaken, you know very upset, visibly upset – she should have been because it could have been anybody.” Fortunately for McDonald’s, it was the Terry family.
McDonald’s acknowledged the Terry family for their good deed.
A spokesperson for the fast-food chain released a statement that read, “We are grateful for this customer and the action they took upon realizing our error. We are looking into why this mistake happened, but what is most important to us is knowing that we are part of a community with values that were evidenced by this person’s action. While the Terry’s appreciated the sentiment, they hoped that no one would be fired for the mishap.
They got a good chuckle out of the situation after the fact.
With the incident behind them, the couple said they can now laugh at what happened. After all, what are the chances of something like that ever happening to them again? They want people to know that being honest is always the best policy. It shows true character and integrity.
They’re still fans of the restaurant chain.
The next time this family has an order that’s missing something, they’ll feel somewhat relieved. Even with a fast-food restaurant like McDonald’s, sometimes things can go wrong. Thankfully, it involved the right people who made an excellent choice of being honest.
But, after the story aired, there’s a good chance the Terry family will double-check or perhaps triple-check their order from now on before leaving the drive-through. In the meantime, they’ll continue enjoying their favorite fast food.
