Sometimes, split-second decisions can mean the difference between life and death. This McDonald’s worker knew that he had to act fast.
We all have a duty to look out for one another. You never know when your boring shift, your walk out in the park or your day at home can turn into a situation that requires quick-thinking and heroic actions.
22-year-old Pedro Viloria is someone who knows how he would react in such a situation, because it has already happened to him.
Viloria works in the drive-thru of a McDonald’s. Usually, it’s an uneventful job. But one day, when he was about to hand the food over to a customer, something happened.
Instead of stopping, the car just rolled past the window. Viloria looked out at the car and heard the kids in the car start to scream.
“Her kids were screaming, like ‘mother, mother stop it. Mother what are you doing?'” – Pedro Viloria.
Immediately, Viloria was concerned. He hopped out of the window, not caring what his supervisor would say.
Luckily, Viloria was able to reach the rolling car. He pulled the door open, hit the breaks and checked to see if the driver was all right. Viloria could see that the woman behind the wheel was having a medical issue. So he shouted for someone still inside to call 911 as he spoke to the woman.
Inside the McDonald’s, an off duty fire rescue officer witnessed the incident and went out to help.
He and Viloria were able to look after the mother until an ambulance could arrive.
“I thought if these kids lose their mother today, that’s gonna be tragic. If I would have meant to die to save that woman, I would have done it.” – Pedro Viloria.
At the hospital, the doctors were able to stabilize the woman’s condition. The woman, a police officer, would be able to resume work after some minor recovery time.
The woman was incredibly grateful to Viloria. If it hadn’t been for his quick actions, she may not be here today. Pretty soon, word started spreading of the young McDonald’s worker who moonlights as a lifesaver.
Inside Edition went on to make a video of Viloria’s story. The video has since gone viral on YouTube.
To date, it has gained over 2.7 million views. It also has more than 25,000 likes and 1,300 comments. People have been saying things like this:
It’s easy to say that you would help out in a situation like this. But until it actually happens, you have no way of knowing. It’s easy to believe that many other people in this situation would have good intentions but not actually act until it was all too late.
Viloria, as a 22-year-old man, still has a lot of life ahead of him.
With an attitude like his, he could choose any career path he wants. However, one thing is clear: he’d be great at any job that involves looking out for and helping others.
