Military dog melts over 1M hearts reuniting with ‘battle buddy’ after 2 years apart

Sheldon Holland is a former sniffer handler who has been deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The years he spent at war were hard but, thankfully, he had good company most of the time.

Among the dogs he handled over the years was explosive sniffer Django.

The two of them met back in 2011, when they were both assigned to Afghanistan.

Holland was Django’s handler and the pair built a very strong bond during the 18 months that they worked together.

After that, Holland had to return home. Indeed, he left for Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, but he made a promise to his boy.

He’d come back for him one day.

And, although the road to their reunion was far from a bed of roses, Holland never went back on his word.

Over the next two years, he went through everything he had to in order to have Django taken to South Africa to be with him.

The procedure was far from easy, it took lots of papers and lots of work in order to arrange everything, but after two long years of waiting, Django was there.

The dog arrived at the O.R. Tambo International Airport in the summer of 2015, and he stayed there for some time in quarantine kennels at Kempton Park, as he was supposed to.

When the time was right, Sheldon was finally allowed to go take Django home.

The former sniffer handler could not believe he would soon be reunited with his best friend.

He was excited to be taking the brave dog home to provide him with a forever family.

“I am happy, nervous, excited, and impatient at this moment,” Holland said at the time.

On the day that was arranged by Holland and the local authorities, the man went to Kempton Park to take his furry friend.

When he arrived there, he could not believe this was really happening.

On the other side of the fence, Django was on a leash, held by a man who was waiting for the right time to let go of the former explosives sniffer.

Holland, accompanied by several reporters and other media outlets, arrived there and could not wait to hug his good boy.

He approached the gate and made sure Django could see his face.

After a few moments, the dog remembered him and he started getting impatient. He wanted to go cuddle with his buddy.

Indeed, only moments later, the man who was holding Django’s leash let go of him and the big dog rushed to Holland.

The two best friends couldn’t stop cuddling, while the man could not hide his excitement.

It was undoubtedly an emotional reunion.

Holland took Django home and they started a new life together. Django just loves to go for long walks, while he also enjoys doing things normal dogs do, like sniffing flowers- instead of explosives.

Finally, the two got to live the life they deserved.
