Senior cat is abandoned after 14 years with owner but charms her new mom with just one look

We love pet-owners who adopt senior animals!

And it’s tough – you get less time with a cat or dog and you may have more medical bills to pay. But in return, you’ve done the best thing an animal lover can do – you give a pet the love and affection it deserves in its final years when so many die alone in shelters.

The story of Olivia and a beautiful Himilayan cat named Miss Molly is, luckily, one of the happy stories about a senior cat.

But it didn’t start off that way.

Miss Molly and her owner were inseparable for 14 years. But after all that time, the woman developed health issues that left her unable to take care of her beloved cat.

She had to give her up. And, of course, that’s the responsible thing to do when you can no longer care for an animal.

But it’s tough for a cat to adjust to shelter life after being an only cat and companion to just one person for nearly a decade and a half.

And like so many senior cats, Miss Molly languished at the rescue, unable to find a home because everyone wants a kitten.

The Cape Cod branch of the Animal Rescue League of Boston took the poor girl in on December 8, 2016, and uncovered a few medical issues. They treated her for a urinary tract infection and discovered she was showing some early signs of kidney disease (as many cats her age do). Nothing too serious, but just enough to make her unlikely to find a home quickly.

For nearly 2 months, Miss Molly – who had just had a loving forever home – perched up on a high shelf, sitting among all the other cats waiting for someone to give them a chance.

But the good news is her day did come!

“I found Miss Molly on Petfinder after months of searching for the right cat. I knew I wanted a senior cat because I wanted to make sure an older cat wasn’t left in a shelter for the last few years of their life,” her new owner Olivia told the website Love Meow.

They were the perfect match!

And Molly was thrilled to meet someone who seemed keen on giving her a new life.

“Molly was napping on the highest shelf in her enclosure and climbed right down to greet me,” Olivia recalled. “I loved how friendly and outgoing she was, and of course I couldn’t say no to her face. I knew right away that I needed to bring her home, despite her medical issues.”

All Molly needed was someone to love her. She wasn’t aloof or ill-tempered when she got to her new home.

The tiny 6.5-pound ball of fur snuggled right up to her new owner and found her place in the bed each night.

Now she’s inseparable from a beloved owner yet again.

“Miss Molly always greets me when I get home by running to the door and letting out a single meow,” Olivia told Love Meow. “I couldn’t be happier with my new choice and I’m very happy to have found her.”

It’s a reminder to everyone out there looking for a cat that those “of a certain age” are incredible companions. They may need a little extra help and attention, but it’s all worth it.

At least, it sure is for Olivia:

“Senior cats still have so much life to live and love to give and I look forward to giving her all of the love and attention she will need for the rest of her life.”
