Mom with 14 sons finally gives birth to baby girl at age 45 and it’s the ‘greatest gift’
After raising 14 boys, a mother and father thought they had seen it all. That is, until they finally had a baby girl.
For Kateri and Jay Schwandt, and their 14 sons, this was one new addition they couldn’t have expected.
Now their baby girl is the only girl in their large family.

The baby of the family seems to always get some special treatment. But when the youngest is also the only girl, the chances are high that she’s going to be everyone’s little princess.
It surprised everyone that they gave birth to a little girl.
Not only is Maggie the only girl in the family, but she’s also the only one born in November.
There are so many ways that this little girl is shaking up this big family.
Everyone was pleasantly surprised by this change in the family structure. No one could have anticipated it.
After having 14 boys, everyone in the Schwandt family thought that only boys ran in the family.
So while Kateri was pregnant, everyone just assumed the baby would be a boy.
The Schwandt’s oldest son, Tyler, tells The Detroit Free Press:
“My parents were finally blessed with the little girl they never thought they’d end up having. It’s been about 12 hours since my dad told us, and I still haven’t quite wrapped my mind around it.”
Having a girl gave the excited parents a new opportunity to be creative with their naming.

Before the birth, the parents had not even had a girl’s name picked out. They were so sure that they would have a boy.
But this birth gave them an opportunity to pay tribute to their bond.
Kateri’s middle name is Margaret, so Maggie comes from that. While Jayne is a feminized twist on the baby’s father’s name, Jay.
Maggie will probably grow up to be a tomboy.
The Schwandt family all share a love of the outdoors. Living on 200 acres of land in Michigan gives them all plenty of opportunities to explore and play outside.
The family hikes, camps, and hunts together, among other activities.

The family even has a TV show, where you can watch all of their comradery and outdoor adventures.
It is called 14 Outdoorsmen, and it runs on MyOutdoor TV. Baby Maggie Jayne will probably make an appearance in the future.
While the parents were never focused on having a girl, it is a dream come true.
Jay had always imagined himself as a father of a daughter.
Even before Maggie Jayne was a twinkle in his eye, he had dreamed of attending father-daughter dances and walking his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day.
While he’s loved raising sons, he wasn’t able to do these things with them.
With 14 brothers and two very happy parents, it’s guaranteed that this sweet baby will have plenty of love in her life.
Jay sums up his family’s feelings by telling The Detroit Free Press:
“We are overjoyed and beyond excited to add Maggie Jayne to our family. This year has been memorable in so many ways, for so many reasons, but Maggie is the greatest gift we could ever imagine.”
Now at home on her family’s farm, Maggie’s future looks bright and full of excitement, with her 14 siblings excited to teach her everything they know.
