Mom transforms dated house into her dream home with zero DIY experience

Taking on DIY projects may seem easy, but it actually takes a huge amount of courage to finally decide on doing something using your own skills rather than spending for the experience and knowledge of a real professional.

Take home renovation, for example. It seems fun and a really great venue to explore one’s own creativity, but it is, in fact, a tedious job especially if you want to get things done on your own. Now, this is not going to be a surprise for a seasoned DIY-er, but for someone like Lyndsey Gynane who’s a newbie in all things DIY, the challenge of doing her home renovation by herself is something that she’s hesitant to do.

But, despite her fear and lack of experience, this 42-year-old mom is determined on doing her best.

Finally, after two years of gradual changes made in her beloved abode, this momma was able to complete her huge DIY baby and transformed it into her dream home!

Lyndsey lived in Halewood, Liverpool together with her partner. Back in 2018, the couple paid for their three-bed semi-house for about £170,000. After two years and DIY changes to their home, the value of the property has gone up by £110,000! How amazing is that?

This mom knew that the home had really great potential. It only needed to undergo some changes and its beauty will surely shine even brighter.

“When we came to view it we knew the potential,” Lyndsey shared with Liverpool Echo. “We wanted to make it all open and renovate each bedroom and make it into a family home. We’d not renovated before, it was our first time doing it but with the vision we had we knew we could make it into more than a three-bed semi. People look at it on Instagram and think it’s half a million pound house, but it’s not, it’s just a three bed semi in Liverpool.”

The Liverpool home has been transformed from the inside out. The exterior used to be pebble-dashed, now it’s white and looking really luxe and elegant. The new doors and window frames worked really well with the new color.

The transformation is even more amazing inside the home. The once dark foyer is now filled with bright white paint and a plush carpet that goes all the way to the stairs. The once wooden banister was changed into glass, giving it a more modern feel and look.

A modern fireplace was also installed in place of the old fireplace.

This design gave the home an overall modern vibe that suits the couple’s taste. The kitchen is much more open and has bifold doors, making it more fun to cook meals in there.

Lyndsey made incredible renovations in both the exterior and interior of their home.

Upstairs, Lyndsey also added a spa-style bathroom which was accomplished thru removing the wall that separates the bathroom and toilet area. It has become bigger and more cozy, creating a lot of space for relaxation needed after a hard day’s work.

Lyndsey shared her DIY journey on Instagram and has gathered more than 176,000 followers over the course of two years! She simply could not believe it.

“It’s just gone crazy, it’s a little bit mental,” she further shared with the Liverpool Echo. “People are following to see how we’ve done it, what we’ve done and also for inspiration. I have documented it all to help other people as well with their renovations. Many tell me ‘I didn’t realize how you can transform an old house’, so I just give little bits of advice and stuff.”

The couple hired workers on the major renovations, but most of the design idea came from Lyndsey who was not expecting it to come out so great because she wasn’t experience with DIY projects!

She surely is one promising talent when it comes to DIY home renovations.

And when asked of her favorite part of the project? Lyndsey already knows her answer.

“Obviously the extension and open plan and bifold – that’s the main feature, but the bathroom is a big thing for me, because the bathroom and how we transformed that… it’s like a little mini spa now. I love my baths, and it’s like my little sanctuary with the feel you get from it.”

We love what you did with the house, Lyndsey! Well done!
