Richards had had no idea that she was pregnant. But now that she knew, she was desperate for the fetus to survive.

The doctors did what they could. Amazingly, they were able to stem the blood. The fetus was saved.

Richards then had to accept that she was carrying a child and had a high risk of losing the child in the future.

The teenager wanted to do anything to ensure that the baby made it to birth. She hoped and prayed that there would be no more difficulties during her pregnancy. She was wrong.

Just a few weeks later, Richards started bleeding again. This time, she knew what was happening. She rushed back to the ER.

Once more, the doctors were able to stem the bleeding and save the fetus.

Sadly, this was not the end of the ordeal. Over the next 14 weeks, seven more miscarriages would start to occur. Amazingly, the doctors prevented the miscarriages time and time again.

After the ninth prevented miscarriage, the fetus kept on developing. There was no more bleeding. Richards hoped that finally, her child would be able to develop healthily.

At 36 weeks, the doctors diagnosed Richards with a condition. She had placenta previa. This caused her to go into labor three weeks early.

Once more, Richards was hoping that the doctors could do their best for her child.

She had no choice but to undergo an emergency c-section. Unfortunately, the placenta previa would cause complications.

Richards lost six pints of blood during the operation. She also lost consciousness.

The next thing Richards knew, she was waking up in the hospital. She felt weak. Then she remembered the labor. She could see no child around and started panicking.

Luckily, a nurse soon came to her. Richards desperately asked about her daughter.

The nurse said that the baby was well. Soon, Richards would be able to see her. The most important thing for her at the moment was to rest.

Eventually, Richards got to meet her daughter, Demi, for the first time.

She was overjoyed to see that against all the odds, this baby was now healthy.

Sadly, the difficult labor and c-section came at a terrible cost for Richards’s future.

The doctors had had to remove her womb during the operation. If they hadn’t done this, she would have died.

Richards learned that she would never have another child. This was a blow. But at least she had a perfect child. At least she and her daughter were alive.

“The day I gave birth was the worst day of my life. But the day I finally held my daughter was the best.” – Lucy Richards.

Eventually, both the mother and daughter were discharged from the hospital. Richards’ recovery still took an incredibly long time. But today both she and her daughter are happy and healthy.
