Woman forces pilot to turn plane around when she says she forgot baby in the airport

Have you ever forgotten something and had to turn around to go get it? Your wallet, perhaps. Maybe even your phone if you are really rushing. While it may be an inconvenience to drive an extra five minutes to grab a wallet, you probably have never forgotten your baby on in an airport and took a flight somewhere else!

An airplane en route to Malaysia was required to turn back around because of a forgotten passenger – an infant.

The requirements to turn a flight around are rarely met. Usually, there needs to be some sort of medical emergency or safety concern to warrant such a measure. The reason is because of the sheer cost and logistics of a turnaround. Besides potentially delaying hundreds of passengers and causing a ripple effect across multiple airports, the cost and time to physically fly a plane in a circle are huge.

The woman had boarded flight SV832 at the King Abdul Aziz International Airport.

The woman was sitting in the waiting area with her baby when her flight was called to board. Apparently she had forgotten to bring her baby along and boarded the flight and was on her way. Things began to get wild when the mother realized her mistake.

After a voice recording of air traffic control and the pilot went viral, we were able to see the conversation that happened from the plane to the ground.

The pilot radioed in and requested permission to turn the flight around. When ATC (air traffic control) heard this, they were incredibly confused. They were blown away that a mother boarded, took her seat, and took off without realizing her baby was missing.

With no protocol for this situation, everybody was confused about the next steps.

The recording has the pilot saying:

“May God be with us. Can we come back or what?”

After talking amongst themselves, ATC figured out a plan.

Not wanting to face the rippling consequences of a flight error of this magnitude, ATC considered the need for the plane to turn around, considering the baby was safe and was not in immediate danger.

Mother’s demands are not easily refused.

Understandably, the mother begins to get more frantic as she hears the possibility of the flight not turning around. Becoming irrational and angry, the mother began to give good reason to turn the flight around, even though this was her fault, to begin with.

Not the first time a flight has been turned around.

Believe it or not, there have been crazier reasons for flights to have been turned around. Back in 2013, an American Airlines flight traveling across the country had to land in Kansas City early because a particular passenger would not stop singing Whitney Houston’s “I will always love you”. While it’s a great song, five hours of it would get repetitive.

Things worked out, even it was a massive inconvenience.

At the plea of the mother, the flight did eventually turn around. The baby was brought to her and everything worked out
besides the missed connections on a few passengers, of course. I am sure that the mother learned a valuable lesson from the entire ordeal. It’s probably not wise to leave your baby laying around in places!
