Mom gives birth early, doctors didn’t expect the rare white-haired albino beauties she delivers

Having twins is an absolute miracle. Having albino twins is not only a miracle – but it’s incredibly rare.

When rare albino twin sisters were born in Argentina in early 2019, they instantly became famous overnight. The entire world was absolutely enamored with the gorgeous babies because they truly were unlike any other.

Jorge Gomez and his wife were ecstatic about having twins, but the couple had no idea that they would both be born so special. And when they arrived on this planet? They came out with breathtaking, snow-white hair.

The babies, Virginia and Catalina, were born in the Tucumán Province in northern Argentina.

The little newborn babies were born prematurely at just 36 weeks and took the entire hospital staff by surprise when they arrived. Virginia and Catalina were the very first set of albino twins to ever be born in the country. Once word got out about their birth, they became an overnight sensation.

Catalina was the first-born of the twins, weighing 5.95 pounds (approx. 2.6 kg), while Virginia was born two minutes later weighing just a tiny 5.5 pounds (approx. 2.4 kg).

“When they gave us the news that we would have two babies, it gave us a lot of happiness and when they were born and we saw that they were albinos, that happiness did not change at all,” Jorge Gomez, the father, told LV12.

The twins’ parents did not view their babies as “different” or a burden in any way – in fact, it was quite the opposite.

“For us it is a blessing,” he added.

So, what exactly is albinism? And how rare is it? Albinism is a rare pigment disorder where the skin and hair do not have any pigment due to a lack of melanin. The National Organization of Albinism and Hypopigmentation says that albinism occurs in approximately one in 17,000 people in the United States. And while those odds don’t seem crazy, the odds of having albino twins are extremely rare.

As these babies and other people with albinism grow up, they will need to take extra care regarding their skin and eyes as they are very sensitive to UV light from the sun. However, these special twins are lucky enough to have an older brother (9-years-old) who will be there to help them every step of the way. And, of course, their loving parents as well.

As the babies grow up, they just become more beautiful every day. They are truly gorgeous and almost look like little dolls!

Virginia and Catalina might be rare, but they aren’t the only set of well-known albino twins out there. Lara and Mara Bawar, 13-years-old, are albino twins from São Paulo, Brazil and they recently been signed as models for brands like Nike and Bazaar Kids. Their Instagram account has over 135,000 followers!

“They are aware of the power they have to inspire. Although very young, the twins Lara and Mara, already understand very well the importance of the work they are doing and how their self-confidence has been helping many people around the world,” said photographer Vinicius Terranova.

“Alongside with Sheila, the sisters have also spread a message of love and respect for differences.”

If there’s one thing for sure–these sets of twins are completely stunning and it’s a reminder to everyone that humans come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
