Mom has 'monster spray' made at pharmacy to give to her son who is afraid of the dark

It’s no secret that most kids are afraid of what’s under their beds. Once night comes and there’s total darkness in their rooms, anxiety kicks in, giving way to imagined fears.

7-year-old Jakob Garfield has the same fear as most kids his age.

He’s so scared of the monster under his bed. In fact, the fear was too intense that he would often sneak into his parent’s room at night.

As Jakob’s mom, Heather wanted to make sure her son can feel safe in his own room.

She shared:

“He’s been having some trouble with fears at night and what lies in the darkness, what’s outside his bedroom, what’s under his bed.”

Like most parents, she knew that it wouldn’t be easy.

She needs to find a solution that would not just make the monsters leave but also assure her kid that they won’t be coming back. After all, her son isn’t that easy to convince.

Heather said:

“He’s a little too smart for his own good sometimes. So I had to make it quite official.”

She went to their local Shopper’s Drug Mart.

There, she talked to the pharmacist and asked for help. After hearing the mother’s story, Jepal Patel, the pharmacy manager, felt compelled to help.

“I wanted to help her. I really loved her idea,” she said.

After a couple of minutes, Jakob’s mom came out of the pharmacy with a solution.

The pharmacist created a special Monster Spray for Jakob. It came with instructions so it looked official and real.

On the bottle, the label said:

“Spray around bedroom at night before bedtime and repeat if needed.”

Heather was super happy about the spray.

She wrote an appreciation post for the pharmacy and the pharmacist. She shared:

“Huge thank you to ShoppersDrugMart on the Hart. My youngest has been having a fear of the dark and all the scary things that might come out. I asked the pharmacy if they could make me a monster spray label and even though they were busy they were happy to do it”

Since it was posted in a public group, the pharmacist was able to read it.

She responded:

“I am so glad that I was able to help.. I am very overwhelmed [by] the response that we have been getting from the lovely Hart community for our store and staff. We will continue to keep up the good work.”

To make it more “effective”, Heather added her special ingredient to the solution.

It was lavender oil. Its calming scent can help kids to calm down and relax. It’s quite helpful in getting them to sleep.

Did it work?

Just like Mom’s prediction, Jakob didn’t believe it completely. During the first night, Heather found her son on her bed.

She shared:

“He looks at me and says, ‘Mom I think it’s just water.”

Heather reassured the boy.

She explained that the special spray could take some time to work. He just needs to be patient. After saying that, the kid seemed to believe it.

Kids have fears that may seem to have no sense to adults. As parents, you need to be cautious in how you approach the issue. It’s important to let your kids know that you are taking their fears seriously and that you’re willing to help fight them.
