Mom passes away and ends up going viral because of the obituary her kids wrote

It can be perplexing to discover that some people actually find humor in someone’s passing.

There are instances where people rejoice upon hearing the news of death – someone on the most wanted list, a dictator, you get the idea. But if it’s a mom who’s been nothing but loving and devoted to her family, well, you’ll wonder just how anyone can turn her death into a laughing matter.

Before jumping to conclusions or assuming some people are just horrible, you should know that there are families that share a wonderful sense of humor about everything.

They don’t take offense at the slightest thing, they poke fun at each other even in serious situations, you get the idea.

Take this family who decided to stray from the usual by crafting a funny obituary for their mom, Sybil Marie Hicks.

Sybil was 81 when she passed away on February 2, 2019.

Instead of a wonderfully written obituary that will bring those who knew her to tears, readers of The Hamilton Spectator were treated to a comical tribute to a wonderful woman.

Barb Drummond wrote a simple and perfect introduction:

“Mom was never boring. Mom lived large. She would do anything for anyone. It was rare for Mom not to have a smile on her face. Mom was always ready for a laugh.”

The obituary seemingly penned by Sybil had everyone cracking up.

“It hurts me to admit it, but I, Mrs. Ron Hicks from Baysville, have passed away. I leave behind my loving husband, Ron Hicks, whom I often affectionately referred to as a ‘Horse’s Ass.’ I also left behind my children whom I tolerated over the years; Bob (with Carol) my oldest son and also my favourite. Brian (with Ginette) who was the Oreo cookie favourite, Brenda AKA ‘Hazel’ who would run to clean the bathrooms when she heard company was coming. Barbara (with Gordon) the ever Miss Perfect and finally Baby Bruce who wouldn’t eat homemade turkey soup because he didn’t want to be alert looking for bones while he ate.”

The late Mrs. Hicks must be chuckling where she is! One can only imagine how much fun her children had sharing the piece.

Brian, one of her kids, shared,

“We just thought that when she passed, we really didn’t want to have this sort of boilerplate template obituary.”

They didn’t think twice about sharing it on Twitter, either. Everyone loved it.

There was even a part that read,

“I finally have the smoking hot body I have always wanted… having been cremated. Please come say goodbye and celebrate my wonderful life with my husband and his special friend Dorothy who is now lovingly taking care of my horse’s ass.”

The late Mrs. Hicks must be beaming with pride at her family. Not only did they do a good job at showing everyone just how fun a person she was, they unintentionally made her go viral, too!
