Single dad's card get declined again and again – woman behind him extends offer that makes him cry
For Sarah Fleming it was just another day as she waited in line at the grocery store to pay for her items.
Except on this day she was met by a very distinct and clear voice in her head. The voice guided her and then commanded her to cover the bill of the family in front of her.
She heard the voice say:
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t have the money…I’ll provide. Trust Me.”
Pulling out her wallet, she promptly obeyed. The family’s groceries totaled $94.10. With not another moment to spare, Fleming blurted out from the line:
“I’ve got it.”
And so she picked up the tab, giving no worry as to how she would cover it.
Her reason? The voice she heard so clearly that day was the voice of God, nudging her in the right direction.
Up until that point, Fleming had patiently observed a saddening situation unraveling before in the grocery store line.
She witnessed the family: a pre-teen girl, a boy, and their father struggling to afford their selections. She didn’t see a ring on the man’s finger, noting that perhaps he was a single father.
She could see and feel their embarrassment as they asked the cashier to start taking items off of the bill. Slowly, the cashier withdrew food and placed it beneath the counter. She took off cans of tuna, boxes of pasta, bananas, and apples.
Just weeks after Thanksgiving and weeks before Christmas, Fleming noted this was a tender time.
It was at that moment that she felt a gentle nudge on her back, followed by a more abrupt shock to her chest. And then the voice. Pay for their groceries.
She stalled. What if she embarrassed the family even further?
But to this, she was nudged again. And following her holy guidance, she paid for their food.
She instructed the cashier to put everything back and swiped her card for them. After she paid for her own groceries, she was thanked graciously by the father, his face filled with tears, who admitted he was indeed a single parent.
Fleming filled with emotion as she returned to her own car. She said:
“I prayed and praised the Lord for allowing me to help. I asked God to give me more opportunities to be obedient and show the world the utter grace He has shown me.”
Months later, Fleming was attending church. She was getting ready to listen to her pastor preach when something caught her eye. At the end of their pew was the single father and his children.
She instantly felt a wave rush over her as she broke down in sobs and goosebumps. She was amazed to see them there, the only other people in her row. She admitted:
“I never told him I was a Christian. I never even told him where I went to church. I just obeyed God.”
She realized in that moment that there are no coincidences, just God’s perfect timing.
Fleming praised the experience and shared it on Facebook recently, saying:
“Glory to the Lord God Almighty, great things HE hath done.”
Her heartfelt story caught the attention of many, with 31 thousand likes and 52 thousand shares.
