Mom lets lonely dog pick out her new BFF at shelter and it’s a perfect match
This is the story of an adorable dog named Liza. The poor girl had a rough start in life. Her mother was abandoned by her family when she was pregnant and brought to a shelter right before she gave birth.
Liza and her siblings were born as shelter puppies and their futures were uncertain.
The puppies were born in poor health and the shelter staff wasn’t sure if they would pull through. Over time, however, they slowly but surely started improving.
Liza gets adopted.
In the first 13 weeks of her life, Liza grew to become healthy and energetic. Not only that, she was adopted into a forever home by a woman named Debi Kolak. Another dog of Debi’s, named Mona, soon became Liza’s best friend.
Unfortunately, a void was created in Liza’s life when Mona tragically passed away.
Liza is lonely.
The loss created a hole in Liza’s life. Not long after, however, Debi moved in with a boyfriend who had two older dogs. Debi felt like this would be good for Liza, by providing some new friends. Unfortunately, the 3 dogs never seemed to be able to get along.
There was a big age difference between Liza and the other dogs, and they may have been put off by her energetic ways.
So, Debi figured maybe Liza needed a new friend who was more in sync with her crazy energy.
Is 4 dogs too many?
Debit worried that perhaps 4 dogs would be too many for their home but she kept the idea in the back of her head. Ultimately, they decided they would give it a shot in the hopes that it would fill the void left in Liza’s life from Mona’s passing.
Debi took Liza to the shelter to pick out her new friend. If Liza seemed to bond with one of the dogs, then that dog would be her new buddy.
Liza meets Murphy.
Liza met a few dogs that day but none of them had the effect on her that a pup named Murphy did. Unfortunately for Murphy, he’d had a rough stretch in the shelter. He’d been there 5 times and had been adopted and returned on 3 different occasions. That must have been heartbreaking for him. Maybe Liza sensed this about him.
âMurphy was sad ⌠defeated-looking,â Debi recalls in an interview with The Dodo. âHe had a large scar on his head. He didnât bark or run to the cage. He just sat there, pressed against the chain link of his tiny kennel⌠But I was drawn to his pitiful face.â
Liza and Murphy save each other.
There is nothing more valuable in this world than a good friend.
âLiza and Murphy had an instant connection. He rolled belly-up for her and then the game was on! They ran and frolicked for almost an hour, never once showing aggression and matching each otherâs playfulness. I knew he was the one, and Liza knew he was the one.â
âIn just a few short days of having him home, I canât understand how no one would give this dog a chance, he is amazing,â Debi concluded.
