Mom of 3 discovers she's pregnant with triplets, gets tubes tied, then winds up pregnant with twins
Being a mom brings about so many unexpected emotions. For some people, having one baby is enough for them to realize that for whatever reason, they don’t want any more. For others, their original plans to have one or two children end up changing when Mom and Dad discover that they love parenting more than they ever thought they would.
Chloe Dunstan of Perth, Australia is a mom who knows all about looking after young children – she has 6 of them, after all!
Several years back, Chloe and her husband Rohan “Ro” had 3 babies, and learned they would be expecting another child to add to the bundle. As if 3 children under the age of 3 wasn’t enough to handle, Chloe then discovered that she wouldn’t be giving birth to only one baby, but 3!

That’s right – Chloe was expecting triplets. Triplets are incredibly rare, with only around 4300 sets of 3 babies being born for every 3.9 million births. So of course, though Chloe and Ro were slightly horrified at the thought of becoming a family of 8, they were equally thrilled.
Chloe, who was only 22 at the time, and Ro, aged 26, knew that being parents to 6 children under the age of 3 would be a challenge. But the challenges came far before the birth, during Chloe’s pregnancy, when Pearl, one of the triplets, was being deprived of oxygen and she wasn’t getting enough nutrients.

It was decided that Chloe should give birth 3 months earlier to protect her babies. She was initially told to deliver her 2 healthy boys, while her baby girl would die in utero. But instead, Chloe gave birth to her 3 babies at 28 weeks. All of the babies were tiny, and needed blood transfusions to survive.
Speaking out about her decision to have an early birth, Chloe said:
“I feel guilty for having the boys delivered when they were growing so well in the womb. But Pearl would have died if we didn’t deliver early, so I will never regret that.”

According to Chloe, Pearl had a range of medical issues that the doctors had to treat for several months following her birth, including a PDA in her heart that closed on its own, a pulmonary hemorrhage, a minor brain bleed, an infection, metabolic bone disease, and issues with her liver. The little fighter spent time on a ventilator, during which Chloe admitted she and Ro “weren’t sure if she would make it”.

But Pearl pulled through, and Chloe decided that 6 babies was enough for her. She had her tubes tied to prevent any future pregnancies.
So it was a bit of a shock to Chloe’s Instagram followers that she announced she was pregnant – with twins!

It turns out Chloe had regretted having her tubes tied so much that she decided to undergo a tubal ligation reversal. The happy mom said:
“…I wanted to restore my fertility. We are so very excited for this new chapter in our lives. Our hearts are so full. We are all really excited to grow from a family of eight to a family of 10.”

Chloe shared a video of the reactions of her kids to her pregnancy news on YouTube, which you can check out below. The kids’ reactions are pretty amusing, especially when one of them asks if it was a “food baby”!
Good luck to Chloe, Ro and their little posse!
