Mom checks on toddler in crib and finds their rescue dog napping beside her

Every dog mom has experienced the sharp pang of fear that comes when they can’t find their furry friend. Although it’s generally way easier to lose track of a cat, sometimes dogs like to give us a little fright, too. Or, at least one dog in Raleigh, North Carolina does.

Raven was rescued by her mom, Kristin Leigh, nearly 15 years ago and has been enjoying life with her family ever since.

Although she’s a senior dog now, she hasn’t lost her touch when it comes to keeping mom on her toes.

A few years ago, Kristen was in her house when she realized it had been a while since she had seen her dog.

She started searching through the house, but couldn’t find her in any of her usual hiding spots. She searched high and low going through the kitchen and the living room, too but didn’t see her anywhere. Then, a sliver of panic began creeping in.

Did she forget to close the front door? Maybe she forgot her outside? A quick trip to the backyard proved that she hadn’t, but it didn’t put the worried mom at ease. At this point, she had checked every room in the house but one, her sleeping daughter’s, Addison. She didn’t want to risk waking her daughter up, but it was the only place left she could think of to check.

The moment that the mom opened her daughter’s bedroom door, her fears swiftly melted into a puddle of adoration. Her baby girl was comfortably snoozing in her crib, with Raven curled up under the covers right next to her.

The mom was so moved by the touching scene before her that she decided she had to capture it in a video.

She uploaded it to her Facebook and was surprised at how fast it went viral, quickly reaching just under 10 million views. Kristen captioned her video with the most beautiful explanation of her relationship to Raven.

“That moment you can’t find your dog and you even go outside looking for him…only to walk in the house and find him snuggled up in bed next to your toddler. People that say “money can’t buy happiness” have never paid an adoption fee. 10 years ago I left a rescue with this little guy and I often wonder…who rescued who? I gave him a home, but he gave me so, so much more. “RESCUED” is my favorite breed! Dogs have a way of finding the people that need them…filling an emptiness we didn’t even know we had…” she wrote.

The touching message that Kristen wrote is a beautiful reminder to us all that there are millions of dogs out there just waiting to be rescued by someone. And, as you can see for yourself and as Kristen attests, they will rescue you right back.

Roughly 3 million adoptable cats and dogs are put down in shelters every year simply because people choose to “shop” for pets through retailers and breeders, rather than adopting.

“The number of euthanized animals could be reduced dramatically if more people adopted pets instead of buying them. When you adopt, you save a loving animal by making them part of your family and open a shelter space for another animal who might desperately need it,” wrote The Humane Society of the United States.

Kristen chose to change that for Raven and has been greatly repaid in return.

Not only does Raven fill a space in Kristen’s heart, but the sweet dog also loves to take up space in her bed as well as Addison’s. She’s a snuggler for sure, and it sure does make for one of the cutest videos we’ve ever seen.

Hey, don’t just take our word for it, or millions of others, for that matter. Witness the adorable moment yourself in the short video below.
