Mom tells her 3-year-old she "ate all his candy" and films his reaction
Kids seek out candy like we grownups seek out coffee. We need that feel-good thing to savor our taste buds and make us happy.
This mom sought to find out just how much her 3-year old loved candy.
So she pulls out the camera and starts filming. She begins, “So you know how I put you to bed last night?”, and gets an “Uh huh” from the inquisitive 3-year old.
Continuing the solemn confession, she proceeds to tell him “….well, I got really hungry and I ate all of your candy”.
What follows next is several seconds of silence, and some turning of the head. This 3-year old takes some time to process what she said, all with the blankest of expression on his face. Surely….surely, mom is just pulling his leg, right?
I mean, what kind of grown-up eats that much candy?
And perhaps this 3-year old is a bit sharper than most kids his age. When that silence ends, he takes some steps toward his mom and pops out a smile. “You’re just joking!”, he remarks with a slight laugh.
An inevitable response, of course. Wouldn’t we all think the same thing?
“You didn’t eat all my candy!”, he continues, giving his mom the benefit of the doubt. If his first thought was that she was joking, then it’s safe to say he’s seen something like this before. Mama, of course, has to keep the act up so he really believes her.
That smile he just flashed was way too full of confidence. Mom’s really got to convince him now.
His mom goes on, “I did. I was really hungry” she tells him with an extra apologetic tone. And in fact, the little tone might have made all the difference. His smile instantly vanishes, and now his eyes widen. Where there was once a funny smile of disbelief, there’s now a blank and solemn drop to his lips.
Mom’s probably thinking “I got him now!”
Maybe mom was trying to protect him from tooth decay and malnutrition. Some pediatricians have noted an excessively sugary diet in young kids can lead to obesity and type-2 diabetes. Not that a 3-year old would understand what diabetes is, obviously.
“Well, I was really hungry and I didn’t have any other food. I’m sorry.”
Now he’s a little troubled. His face looks nothing like it did 10 seconds ago, and his adorable eyes give his mom that “Did you really do that?” look.
He pulls the fridge open, points at the perfectly good food inside and politely remarks, “Well, you should eat something from in here”.
Even while convinced that she ate his candy, he’s still looking out for his mom. This boy is sweeter than the candy.
All his mom can think to say is “Oh…”. But this 3-year old isn’t done being a precious gem. Up to mom he walks, and he kindly tells her “Mommy, I’m not mad at you. It’s okay”, all with a smile on his face.
And this is the part where things turned from cute to just absolutely precious. I don’t know who this little boy is, but he should be protected at all costs.
