Mom sees how ex’s new girlfriend treats her daughter, writes letter to her that’s going viral
When a new significant other enters a separated couple’s lives, things can be difficult for everyone, especially when they have a child. One mother is choosing to rise above this by teaching her daughter the importance of love and acceptance by graciously accepting her ex’s new girlfriend and writing her a now-viral thank you note.
Audrey Loving first met Corey Henry when they were 18. They got engaged and had a daughter, Riley, now 4, but unfortunately, the long distance and personal differences brought their relationship to an end. The two live pretty far from one another, so Loving has full custody of Riley; they do note that Henry is still very involved during the weekends.
When she was made aware that Henry had begun to date someone new, Whitney, Loving was determined to teach her daughter to love and accept the new family member.
Loving explains, “I come from a blended family — I have stepsisters, half-sisters. Growing up, I heard the negative talk about the ‘other woman,’ and I didn’t want my kid to hear the same thing … It’s not fair. Kids are smart.”
She continues on to say, “It’s awkward for her too — dating someone with a kid… I’m not interested in the baby mama drama … I welcomed her into my family with open arms.”
While it could have been easy for the two to become catty and create drama for each other, the high road has proven to be healthy for Riley’s childhood, who is growing up beautifully!
She wrote on her Facebook page:
This is my daughters fathers girlfriend. The sweetest thing ever! I’m super thankful for her because when she visits her dad she feeds her, takes care of her, buys her gifts, and basically takes care of her like her own.
Why do all these moms act so spiteful and jealous towards the other women? NOONE said it was easy trying to be a mother to a kid you didn’t have. So when there is someone trying, don’t push them away! Because they DON’T need the drama they WILL leave and then you’re stuck with someone who is the evil step mom.
Yes they exist! I see them everywhere! A kid can have two moms because in my eyes the more people that love her I’m happy! I would never make her feel like an outsider; I’m extremely thankful for this girl.
Ladies, grow up and focus on being a good mom. Love more hate less!”
Instead of getting her own feelings in the way, Loving continues to mention that “the more people that love your kid, the better,” and keeping this in mind when his daughter is away for the weekend with Henry. Her Facebook post has since garnered 5,000 messages from others dealing with a similar situation.
By keeping her child’s best interest in mind and trying to be the best parent, Loving has fostered a warm environment for her daughter. We hope Riley grows up with nothing but love in her life!
