Clever mom tells kids they have to stay still to ‘charge’ their glow-in-the-dark pajamas

It’s no secret that children have a very wild and vivid imagination most of the time, but sometimes, parents can definitely one-up them. That was the case for the 33-year-old Jessica D’Entremont from Massachusetts, who is now being hailed as a ‘genius’ by hundreds of parents because of her simple idea to keep the kids still.

She tricked her children into thinking that they have to ‘charge’ their glow-in-the-dark pajamas by staying still for two minutes.

After all, if you have kids in the home, things can get pretty hectic and loud. With this simple trick, mom Jessica can have her small moment of rest and peace to calmly put her children to bed.

Jessica’s daughters, the three-year-old Hannelore and the four-year-old Emma, are both absolutely lovely, adorable and warm kids. The two are highly active, something that mom often describes as being ‘hyper’ and ‘on the verge of a meltdown’ sometimes. Both have a sensory processing disorder, which can make things even more chaotic at home, especially during bedtime.

When Jessica bought glow-in-the-dark pajamas for Hannelore and Emma, she came up with a brilliant idea.

“Looking for a way to keep your kids still…” she posted on Facebook. “Buy them glow in the dark pj’s. Tell them they have to lie really still under the light to “charge” them… I’m not even sorry,” she said with a laugh.

It’s the perfect method to keep them calm and silent just before bedtime!

Jessica wrote this caption along with a great photo of her two children on the floor, anxiously waiting until their glow-in-the-dark pj’s were fully charged again.

The woman never expected the post to go viral. Currently, it has been shared over 100,000 times!

The funny picture and story have also been picked up by dozens of news outlets, even internationally, and parents can’t praise Jessica enough for this great idea.

“I whipped out the PJs which had been packed away in the back of a drawer so I told them they needed to lie very still to charge them. And they did!,” Jessica told the Daily Mail.

“And I got 10 minutes to quietly put clothes away. I had to actually tell them it was time to get up for bed.”

“We have been trying it nightly as a way to calm little bodies before sleep along with our Young Living Essential Oils which we were already using.”

Jessica admits that it’s a white lie and trickery, but she makes sure that the ‘charging’ process actually kind of works. She puts the pj’s somewhere completely dark for the entire day, which has a dimming effect.

They need to be exposed to light again before the glow-in-the-dark actually works. Of course, the part where Emma and Hannelore have to lie still is also mainly the trickery, but it’s a clever move made by mom.

The two small children are absolutely falling for it, and we can imagine that plenty of other kids will do the same.

“To expand on the trickery, I’ve started putting the PJs back into their drawer when they get dressed in the morning… unexposed to light all day, they dim and do not glow in the dark when they tried to test me last night until they laid down again. Reinforcing the need to lie quietly under the light before bed.”

After Jessica’s funny story spread on the internet, dozens of other parents have actually tried the exact same thing, and it usually works!

The comments section underneath Jessica’s original post is full of positive comments, some parents even posted a picture of their own kids performing the ‘charging process’. Even though it’s a bit of a trick, all parents seem to agree that there’s nothing wrong with just a couple of minutes of stillness before going to bed. Funny and brilliant!
