Adopted! Please Hold
The orange “adopted” card is the best card in the deck.
When a dog at the shelter gets adopted, it gets placed in front of their kennel so everyone knows they’ve got a new family that can’t wait to take them home!
Doing a happy dance.
When this dog realizes he’s getting adopted, nothing could hold back the excitement!
“You’ve got a home! Yes you did, you’ve got a home.”
Getting that orange lottery card makes them feel like the ultimate feel-good winner.
At the center of it is this sweet talker.
We don’t know his name, but he works at the shelter. And he’s always quick to give positive affirmations to all the pups as they head out the door.
Suddenly moving from one place to the next kind sometimes be kind of scary.
But, the sound of his familiar voice reassures them that they’ve got a great life ahead of them!
He’ll even take time out of his day to read bedtime stories to those still waiting for their forever home.
Because all dogs deserve to go to bedtime heaven!
He doesn’t want anyone under his care to be left out of all the love and attention he has to give.
But, after the excitement wears done, that’s when reality sets in.
Going from shelter life to a strange new home can sometimes be an uncomfortable transition.
There are a lot of new smells, new people, new noises, and new things that they’re told they can and can’t do!
To make the process easier, experts at Preventive Vet say that you should prepare ahead of time before bringing your new family member home.
It’s super important to create a safe space for your dog.
Make sure your new fur baby has a comfortable bed, crate, or corner to retreat to.
Sometimes your doggy may even pick the perfect spot for themselves, and if they do, put a doggy bed or some blankets there.
Some other things you should do before bringing a new pet into your home:
- Doggy-proof the house by clearing out any hazards.
- Install gates and doggy doors if you’ll be using them.
- Choose a designated area for their food and water bowls.
And of course, let’s not forget…TOYS!
Give them lots of chew-safe toys to say how much you love them.
Adopting a dog from the shelter is one of the best things you can do for a dog who just wants to be loved.
Even if you’re not in a position right now to take in a new pet, seeing the excitement on their faces will bring a big smile to your face.
