Moose sheds massive antlers with one quick flick of its head in viral video
Sometimes our cameras capture something truly special. Not just moments with our loved ones but also brief glimpses into the natural world around us.
This camera captured a moose shedding. It didn’t just shed its antlers gradually, as normal, though.
The ring camera captured the moose whipping them off his head in one smooth move.
And it went viral.
Perfect timing and place.
According to Tyra and Chance Bogert, they have installed a ring camera in their doorbell for security purposes, but they didn’t expect to witness this beautiful creature shedding its antlers in front of their home.
They were not home when it happened. But since the ring camera notified them, they found it amusing. So they decided to check it and watch their front door. And voila, they saw a moose!
At first, they didn’t guess what the moose was up to. They thought that this was so weird for them to see a moose standing in front of their door, not just standing there.
Surprise! The antlers fell off the moose’s head.
In the video, you’ll see a moose standing in front of the house and not making a move at all. Then, all of a sudden, the whole body of the moose started to move and shake off something.
The family is used to seeing many wild animals since they are leaving Houston, Alaska. The ring camera is for their security and safety, but the camera caught something special.
The moose looks relieved to finally release the antlers from his head. After that, the moose ran away and went back to the wild.
But of course, the next question is: Is it normal for this beautiful creature to shed off his antlers?
Here’s what the experts say:
If you are curious why moose shed their antlers, this is National Geographic’s explanation of it.
Once the breeding season is over, the male moose no longer need the antlers. Their head ornament has now become a liability.
How? Because their antlers can get tangled up in fences, garbage, or yeah, even Christmas decorations.
Shedding usually happens in early December as cells called osteoclasts break down the bone cells that attach the animal’s antlers to the skull.
In another video, the owner of the house, Bogert, gets the antlers and shows off their size to the camera.

Some say that they thought that antlers were a permanent accessory of a moose. And one of the comments says that this is cool that a camera caught this natural thing.
They are really happy to be witnessing this kind of amazing natural event.
Some of the followers also discovered this kind of process through this video.
The family intends to save the antlers and mount them in their home, and they even photographed their infant son Thrasher next to the antlers.
