Mother-son doggy duo living in the shelter for 8 months just wanted a home for Mother’s Day

How did you celebrate Mother’s Day?

It’s the day where mothers all over the world get to receive appreciation messages, treats, and a little more love.

What’s nice is that this special occasion applies to our pets as well.

A post from Homeward Trails went viral as it was the perfect post for this special occasion. Meet the adorable duo, Queen and Freddy, they have been staying in their local shelter for 8 months.

Queen is already 10 years old and Freddy is 4. They were surrendered to their local shelter because their previous owners can no longer provide for them when they suffered financial difficulties.

The mom and son duo were inseparable.

All they have was each other and they didn’t want to be apart. Sadly, they waited for a long time for someone to adopt them but no one did. The probability of getting adopted together was slim but their luck was about to change.

Washington D.C. based non-profit shelter Homeward Trails decided to step in and picked up the mother and son duo. They decided to place the pair in the care of a foster family.

After 8 long months, Queen and Freddy felt home again, thanks to their foster parents. Since then, the sweet people from Homeward Trails have been tirelessly helping the mother and son duo find their forever home.

According to Homeward Trails’ website:

“Sweet Queen is 10 years old and is heartworm positive (HT covers the treatment). Her son Fredddy is 4 years old. Both were found wandering as strays in southern Virginia and remained there for 8 long months. Imagine – 8 months of no home, no walks, no cuddles.”

Some asked why they needed to stay together because their chances of getting adopted separately were way better.

“They are very bonded to each other, giving kisses and staying in close contact almost all the time. When one leaves the room, the other looks intently, awaiting the other’s return.”

The shelter knows that it’s indeed a challenge to try and have them get adopted together especially with Queen’s age and condition. However, they can’t bear to see them apart and that just breaks their hearts.

Reading their story makes us feel the same way. The sweet bond between a mother and her child can’t be broken. They have been together for such a long time that being apart is totally out of the question.

Look at them; they are so sweet and they are so beautiful and loving towards each other.

According to their foster family, Queen’s love, attachment, and maternal actions towards Freddy are truly remarkable! Freddy is already an adult dog, but his mother is always there to take care of him, following and grooming him like a young boy.

Freddy is indeed a mama’s boy, don’t you agree?
