There are lots of tiny homes out there, but none of them are quite like this one.

When Michelle “MJ” Boyle’s children had moved out, she realized that it was time to downsize. She looked at a number of small home options. But none suited her. So she built one herself.

MJ had already built two houses in the past. But she had lost them in her divorces. This time, she wanted to build one that was just for her.

After lots of careful planning and construction, MJ ended up with a rectangular two-story home that was eight and a half feet wide and 24 feet long.

MJ’s favorite room in the home is her kitchen.

This takes up most of one end of the building. Over three walls, there’s counter space, a sink, a fridge, shelving, cabinets and a stove/oven.

All of the appliances in the kitchen were made in the 1940s and 50s, giving the area a retro feel.

A thin flight of stairs begins where the kitchen ends. These stairs also double as a storage space. And hidden underneath the base of the stairs is a kitty litter box.

However, the stairs are MJ’s least favorite part of the home, as they are just a little too narrow to climb up comfortably.

MJ’s bedroom is at the top of the stairs. This space has a ceiling that is four inches higher than most of the home, allowing MJ to be more comfortable.

Next to the bedroom are two square floating shelves.

Underneath/next to the stairs is the living room. This features a large media unit and a TV under the stairs. Opposite these are two armchairs, an ottoman and a side table.

The chairs also have storage spaces built into them.

And if the chairs are pulled apart, then the space is large enough to fit a table from behind the refrigerator.

Next to the living room/under the bedroom is a bathroom. Separating the bathroom and the living room is an antique glass door. Luckily, there is a curtain that can be pulled across the glass.

The bathroom is divided into two sections. First, there’s an area that serves as MJ’s cupboard. Opposite this are a washer and a dryer.

Behind the cupboard/washer and dryer are the toilet, sink and shower.

The sink is hand carved from Italian marble.

On top of the kitchen is a guest bedroom. It also serves as a storage space.

A video of MJ’s tiny home then appeared on YouTube.

It soon went viral. To date, it has gained over 2.2 million views. It also has more than 61,000 likes and 5,000 comments. People have been saying things like this:

Clearly, MJ has inspired many people. Some people may think that she is crazy for wanting to live in such a small space, but she is content.

She has built a home that is almost perfectly suited to her. The only issue is the thinness of the stairs! Apart from that, she is completely comfortable.
