Remember when Christmas was simple?

Before COVID-19, the only drama that parents were concerned with was whether or not their child could behave while waiting in line to meet Santa. Unfortunately, there are no giant lines this Christmas. And Santa probably looks a little different. Given the current state of affairs, there are certain guards and precautions we must take if we want to enjoy our usual festivities.

But we will persevere. And not even a global pandemic can prevent Santa from coming to help celebrate.

Just check out this heartwarming Christmas story from Fort Worth, Texas.

Matthew Foster is six years old and is also a strong believer in Santa. However, he’s also blind and autistic, making some situations challenging for his mother. Luckily, she’s a fierce problem solver and was able to navigate a perfect path for her son’s wishes. The results were downright heartwarming.

Misty Wolf had a plan for her son to meet Santa.

The plan? They would arrive to their local Cabelas early to avoid any crowds that would potentially gather. And her plan worked, they were able to walk right into the store and right up to Santa himself. When they got there, Wolf whispered to Santa and gave him some insight regarding her son’s condition. But Santa always has a way of knowing things.

A tear-inducing Facebook post was shared documenting the entire event.

Best Santa ever!I whispered to Santa “he is blind and autistic and is very interested in Santa”. He said “say no more”…

“I whispered to Santa “he is blind and autistic and is very interested in Santa”. He said “say no more” and immediately got down on the floor to greet my little man.”

While Matthew does speak, he doesn’t care to interact with anyone unless he feels absolutely comfortable with them.

“Santa had his trust right away,” Wolf said. “I keep saying that he met the real Santa. That was the real Santa for Matthew.”

Santa knew exactly what to do to protect young Matthew’s heart.

He strolled right over to the boy and knelt down next to him, but his remaining approach was slow. He invited the blind boy to check him out and feel his coat, buttons, and hat to get an idea of who he was interacting with.

“He knew exactly what to do,” she said. “He was just so good at getting through to Matthew and letting Matthew have that learning experience.”

But slowly, the moment to take a photograph with Santa approached. Wolf cringed at this, knowing how much her son couldn’t stand getting his picture taken. But with a pinch of Christmas luck and fate, Matthew felt safe with Santa and was able to sit still for the photos.

“I was just waiting for the meltdown at that point and as soon as he said yes, my jaw just dropped,” she said. “His sister gave the Grinch face, but this time around Matthew was actually looking at the camera and head up and everything. I need Santa in my life for family pictures.”

All in all, Matthew was able to spend a very special ten minutes with Santa – who provided an amazing experience.

A CNN affiliate spoke with the patient and kind Santa:

“You relate to the child and what the child needs,” he said. “He has never seen the world the way we have seen the world.”

Wolf later reported that Matthew couldn’t stop talking about his time with Santa.
