Mother and son bust a move, putting a twist on the traditional wedding dance

When Gabe Helguera got married in 2014, he followed the tradition of the mother-son dance. Normally sentimental and teary, Gabe and his mom Susan went in an entirely different direction with it, resulting in what people are calling “the best mother and son dance EVER.”

With a nod to their no-doubt fun-loving nature as well as the fact that these dances are painful for people to sit and watch, Gabe and Susan put on quite a show.

They started off their dance slowly, to the Louis Armstrong classic “What a Wonderful World” as the photographer moved around them to get the perfect, sentimental shot.

But for anyone who was already nodding off and waiting for it to be over, it must have come as quite a surprise when the music picked up.

Pulling out some slick moves, mother and son chose to get down to “Billy Jean,” by the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson as an indication to their guests that things were about to get funky. Interesting choice for someone who is her son. But it was their dance skills, not the lyrics, that were front and center.

As you might imagine, guests cheered them on as they put on a sweet and entertaining show.

It’s not professionally filmed (or, if it is, we hope they got their money back) so we don’t get the greatest shot of everything, but it’s enough to give us an idea of just how much effort went into the non-traditional display.

And we have to admit that mom not only looks beautiful, but nervous as well, which only makes the whole thing more charming. Meanwhile, Gabe is a natural in the spotlight.

The duo also choreographed some moves to Jennifer Lopez’s “On The Floor” and Gabe even managed to pull off a backflip to really heat up the dance floor.

We particularly love the look on the groomsman’s face.

Mom and son closed out their epic dance with Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” – yet another interesting choice for a wedding dance – but a crowd-pleaser nonetheless. By this point, Gabe and Susan are fully warmed up, loving the reaction of the crowd, and clearly having a blast – and it shows.

Frankly, we think the best part of the whole thing is the amount of fun mom seems to be having.

Commenters were clearly about to give their own sons a guilt trip immediately after watching the video.

“I LOVE IT!!! Mom, you are SO lucky that your son loves you so much that he wanted to share his wedding moment with you!!!”

Or:

“LOVE IT!!! I hope my sons ask me to dance with them like this! Lucky mom!”

Some were convinced that Gabe hadn’t yet done quite enough to please his mother:

“What a beautiful mom. Best wishes for the bride and groom. Now go make her a grandchild.”

We’re not sure how Gabe’s bride felt about all this, but we hope she had a great wedding too!
