The most beautiful thing about being a kid is innocence.

Kids see the world in a way that adults simply do not. Though admittedly, we should. At a young age, children haven’t been touched by the harshness of society. While it isn’t all bad, the world is truly a tough place.

They say that adults should take notes from children and they’re right.

It’s a sad day when the biases of adults affect a child’s perception of the world. After all, there’s a reason why kid’s shows stress the importance of kindness and thoughtfulness. It’s one of the reasons we turn them on.

So why is it that we become complacent when we see our children lose their innocence and begin to view the world through our lens instead of their own?

One little boy named Myles Tankersley from Foley, Alabama, is reminding the world how that innocence looks.

It was Twin’s Day at Myles’ school and he knew exactly who he wanted his twin to be. His older sister had picked out a twin and while she was talking to their mother, Britney Tankersley, about it, Myles seemed to remember that he had a twin as well.

Britney spoke with Bored Panda and shared the story.

“He popped up and said ‘Oh! I asked Tanner if he wanted to be my twin tomorrow and he said yes.’ I’m just sitting there… at 8 o’clock at night… who’s Tanner? I don’t know his mom… what size is he?!”

Still, Britney did what most moms would do, she searched around for the phone number of Tanner’s mom to get his shirt size.

She reached out to their teacher who provided her name and then asked her Facebook friends for her number. Their town is small so luckily there was somebody who was able to give it to her.

“I finally got her number about 8:30PM and asked if she was OK with the boys being twins the next day. She didn’t mind. So, I got his size and headed to Walmart to get matching outfits.”

Britney was exhausted rushing around but she knew how important it was for her son. Thus, she bought two “Future Leaders” shirts from the store.

“He went on and on about how they looked exactly the same. ‘We both have brown eyes, we both have dark hair,’ and he was just adamant…”

The next day at school, Myles arrived wearing his shirt and had another for Tanner in his backpack. Britney was curious about who Tanner was so she asked the teacher to snap a photo and send it to her.

The photo brought tears to her eyes.

“I was basically crying because it was so sweet. Obviously, I know that they don’t look alike at all. But he didn’t see that, you know? I expect to get a picture of another white child with light skin and brown hair, whatever, but I didn’t get that at all. And I said, ‘That is the sweetest thing in the whole world.’”

Britney was so moved, she shared the photo on Facebook where it instantly went viral.

It has been shared over 200,000 times and has over 500,000 reactions – all of which are “likes” and “loves.”

Since then, the two families discovered that they live close to each other. Myles and Tanner now spend time with each other outside of school as well.

For Britney, the post was purely about sharing the message of friendship.

“Wouldn’t the world be such a better place if we could all view it through the eyes of a couple (of) 5yr olds?”

It sure would be, Britney. These truly are our future leaders.
