Despite his own genre being country music, Bennie Amey III – aka Blanco Brown – had always written and produced hip hop and pop hits for performers such as Chris Brown and Pitbull.

It wasn’t until 2019 that he released his own album which included the infectious tune “The Git Up.”

After posting a video to YouTube with Lainey Wilson teaching people a dance to go along with the song, the Internet phenomenon called “The Git Up Challenge” was born.

Within weeks, thousands of people were uploading their own dance videos to YouTube and Tik Tok. Police departments were challenging fire departments, family members were trying to one-up each other, and even doctors and nurses found the time to record videos of themselves doing the dance.

For whatever reason, viewers simply can’t get enough of watching this relatively simple choreography – there are many videos with millions of views!

The steps are elementary at best, but that’s part of what makes it fun for people who aren’t dancers. The song is even popping up at more and more weddings. (Apparently, we’re getting a reprieve from the Electric Slide.)

A popular subset of Git Up challengers is dads and their daughters.

In this particular video, which was posted in July of last year and already has over half a million views, a Naval officer and his young daughter take on the challenge.

It starts out with dad looking for his little girl as the music is already playing – it turns out she’s hiding behind those flags.

She’s pretty young – certainly no older than 5 or 6 – and therefore doesn’t have quite the coordination when it comes to clapping to the beat that dad does, but let’s face it, these videos are meant to be amateurs dancing. We’re not expecting Fred and Ginger here.

For the most part, they are on point and even add a little dramatic flair. For example, at one point someone tosses them some water during their dance so they can rehydrate a bit during the lyrics “Gonna throw down, take a sip with it.” Cute!

It certainly looks like they’re having a lot of fun and must have practiced quite a few times before the final version was made.

If nothing else, it’s certainly a great way to bond and any dad that will dance with his daughter for the whole Internet to see is pretty special if you ask us (and YouTube commenters).

“That’s amazing, you’re a great role model for her, and a great dad!” said one fan.

Many of the over 400 YouTube commenters also thanked this soldier-dad for his service.

“You’re doing a great job dad thanks for your service and thanks for spending quality time with your daughter and creating memories. Both of you will never forget. Well spent time with your daughter. God Bless,” said a woman from Alabama.

The line “grab your sweetheart” at the beginning of the song has inspired hundreds of other father-daughter entries into the seemingly endless challenge. And this video even made it onto USA Today’s long list of their favorite familial Git Up Challenges.

If there’s anything YouTubers enjoy more than The Git Up Challenge it’s watching daddy-daughter bonding, so this video was a hit on multiple fronts.
