This poor cat had to deal with no less than five pounds of extremely matted fur, which caused him to be practically immobile as the four-footer could barely walk. The cat, who listens to the name Sinbad, was clearly neglected by his owner. Luckily, investigators of The Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago received word of this poor kitten’s situation, and they immediately intervened.

A utility worker visited the elderly owner’s home and notified the animal organization, as he was concerned for the cat’s wellbeing.

The man needed to work in the basement, which is where he met the Persian cat. Judging by his condition, he was clearly being neglected and wasn’t properly taken care of.

Investigators later showed up to the elderly man’s home and they were completely stunned when they how dire Sinbad’s situation was with their own eyes. They were shocked, to say the least.

Thankfully, the investigators were able to convince the man to give up the cat to a local shelter.

The animal organization members then rushed Sinbad to the nearest shelter and shaved the poor cat’s extremely matted fur right away.

The situation was incredibly severe, as the nine-year-old feline had to deal with no less than five pounds of matted fur, filled with feces and dirt. The before and after pictures are absolutely astonishing.

After the much-needed shave, Sinbad was given a nice bath, something he probably hasn’t had in years.

“The poor kitty was grateful for any affection he received as he had his cocoon of mats removed,” Elliot Serrano, one of the shelter workers, posted on Instagram.

Sinbad started opening up towards the shelter staff, and everyone thought that he was a very sweet and grateful cat.

With all his fur now removed, it also became abundantly clear that Sinbad was actually severely malnourished too. Half of his weight when he came into the shelter was actually the matted fur. Luckily, they were able to give Sinbad plenty of nutritious meals which helped him get back to a normal weight.

The shelter closed during Christmas weekend, and they were looking for someone to take care of him for a while. Staff member Elliot Serrano didn’t hesitate.

It didn’t take long before he knew that he wanted to have Sinbad in the home a lot longer than just a weekend. During the second day, he made the decision to adopt the feline!

Elliot and Sinbad are the best of friends and practically inseparable, and the cat absolutely adores his new forever home. One of his favorite things to do is watching tv together with his human dad, all while snuggling and cuddling with him, of course. Even though Sinbad has his own place to sleep, his favorite place to rest is in his human’s bed. Maybe it’s just comfier?

One thing that stuns Elliot the most, is how affectionate and trusting Sinbad still is – even after all the neglect and abuse he’s been through. The proud owner nows runs the Instagram-page ‘Sinbad the Survivor‘ where he regularly posts updates about his furry friend.
