Siblings perform cello concert for elderly neighbor who is self-isolating – 'A real gift'
If you have gone to the grocery store recently, you will see that talk of the coronavirus and the global pandemic can bring out some of the scarier parts of humanity. With the “hide and hoard” mentality causing the panic only to grow worse, there are still moments that can touch our hearts and remind us of the value of sacrifice.
Special attention to the elderly.
Many people have neighbors who are quite a bit older in their years. With the recent data showing that the coronavirus can cause symptoms that are more problematic for the elderly, there is good reason to take extra precautions when it comes to those who are older.
In light of this, many of the elderly are scared to leave their homes to get their essentials. The stockpiling of various foods and supplies doesn’t make it any easier for them. With the scary times and the heightened emotions, everyone needs something to calm the nerves.
These two young musicians decided to put on a neighborhood concert for one.
With this in mind, two young musicians decided to put on a concert. Obviously, all large gatherings have ceased, but this one was special – it only had an audience of one.
Planned for their neighbor, two children decided to lift her spirits with some classical music.
Many siblings struggle to get along. There is no place for arguments while performing, however! Taren and Calliope Tien are from Columbus, Ohio, and decided they wanted to help out their neighbor who had been self-isolating as someone who was at a higher risk for complications. More than just young, these Taren and Calliope are nine and six, respectively.
Ensuring a safe distance, the two sweep into some much-needed entertainment.
The duo played some classical arrangements like Bach for almost an entire half-hour. Setting up their stands a safe distance from the door, they began to perform on their respective instruments, apparently playing by sight, judging from the music stand in front of them!
Playing for a total of 30 minutes, Mrs. Helena came out to listen!
They began playing and had gotten through some of their music when their neighbor, Helena, joined them! Staying a safe distance away, she threw on an extra coat and intently listened. She said in an interview:
“It was so delightful. It was a little cold but I just put on an extra coat,…The kids are really quite talented and it was so much fun”
A family affair.
With travel restrictions and a desire to maintain safety, many families are communicating only through digital means. Helena was planning on spending Passover with her family from Israel, but it has been canceled, for apparent reasons. As the kids were playing, she decided that she was going to FaceTime them and spend some time as a family listening to the concert!
Bringing some joy and connecting a family.
The children’s mother, Rebecca, stated in an interview:
“Obviously I am proud of my kids for doing something kind, and I’m glad for them to have that experience and get out and do something exciting in these strange times.”
It is encouraging to see something kind and thoughtful in a world of hoarding and panic.
