Neil Diamond remakes 'Sweet Caroline' to encourage people to wash their hands

These are extremely rare, scary and weird times to live in, and the current pandemic situation certainly can’t be taken lightly. Only with proper enforcement of guidelines such as social distancing (keeping a distance of at least six feet from each other) and staying at home as much as possible, will we be able to save lives against this deadly and incredibly infectious virus.

The SARS-CoV2 virus has infected more than a million people already, although the actual number will be much higher than that since not everyone gets tested. The disease it causes, COVID-19, has already killed tens of thousands. A major help to stop the spread of the pandemic is actually pretty simple: simply washing your hands. It’s incredibly effective in wiping out the virus particles from your hands and will essentially save lives. Therefore: we can’t stress enough to wash your hands.

A lot of celebrities are trying to stress the importance of washing our hands as well, including famous singer Neil Diamond, whose greatest hit is “Sweet Caroline” from 1969.

Since everybody knows the song ‘Sweet Caroline’, Diamond decided to make an updated version of the song for two reasons. The most important one, of course, is to raise awareness about washing hands. If his new song would make even just a few people wash their hands more often when needed, it would be worth it.

Another reason that’s also important, is to make a little bit of light out of this scary situation we’re in. It’s important to keep smiling and keep the faith that we’ll get through this, no matter how difficult it may seem.

This new Sweet Caroline version has been rewritten into a song about washing hands, and we have to admit, it’s definitely pretty amazing and well done.

Of course, Neil Diamond himself made a video singing the updated song, and his special “washing hands” rendition quickly went viral on Twitter. “Stay safe out there!” he tweeted along with the video.

Before the video starts, the singer’s dog actually seems very interested in the camera and starts sniffing it. How cute!

“Hi everybody, this is Neil Diamond. I know we’re going through a rough time right now but I love ya and I think maybe if we sing together, well, we’ll just feel a little bit better. Give it a try!”

The beginning of the song starts the same, but then we can clearly hear the updated lyrics.

“Where it began, I can’t begin to knowing / But then I know it’s growing strong…” Neil Diamond sings, just like in the original song.

The next part is a little bit different.

“Hands, washing hands / Reaching out, don’t touch me / I won’t touch you,” before the chorus that we all know starts again.

Throughout the rest of the song, more references to washing your hands are made, but overall “Sweet Caroline” definitely is still very recognizable. And to make things better, the singer’s voice is excellent as always and a lot of people have enjoyed this small performance.
