Elderly couple puts younger generations to shame with their smooth dance moves

The Ehrentrauts just rocked our socks off.

Nellia, 66, and Deitmar, 72 (at least according to some websites) have been dancing together for 30 years (married for 49!) and they’re still teaching others how to boogie – Boogie Woogie, that is. That’s their official style of dance.

And if you think this Austrian couple is merely mopping the dance floor with younger couples at small competitions, you’ll be surprised to know they’ve recently been featured in an Ed Sheeran video as well!

Regardless of the setting, these two are down for any dance from the 40s and 50s music scene.

Now they’re going viral not for starring in a pop star’s video but for a performance at the Rock That Swing Festival 2020 which took place at the Deutsches Theater in February, just before the coronavirus shut down the world.

The video already has over 655,000 views and commenters are going wild for the pair.

“He does that just the way a boogie should be done. And she looks so happy and full of life. What an inspiration! I’ll never complain about aches and pains again,” said one woman.

The couple is full of smiles as they take the floor to massive applause. It’s clear that the audience knows they’re about to see something special. (And it’s not just great dancing for their age – they’re great dancers, period.)

Once they get going we’re still stunned at just how sprightly they are (at least compared to us!).

These two have some serious moves.

And while they can’t necessarily pull off all the moves they perfected in 1989, they’re still at the top of their class.

And don’t think for a second that they’re not capable of projecting some sass as well.

These two are having fun, bopping up and down, moving across the floor with ease, and doing it all with the theatricality that makes it so special to watch.

Over 2 minutes of twists, turns, dips, and shuffles would tire out most of us, but they show no signs of slowing down during their performance.

And this isn’t’ the first time a video starring the couple has gone viral – it happened back in 2017 as well.

According to AARP, the couple (who they say were 64 and 70 at the time) garnered 64 million views on a video from a dance contest in Bavaria.

“The residents of Durmersheim, Germany, who were caught on camera busting a few moves — and twirls and dips — to ‘Down the Road Apiece’ by the Refreshments, have been caught off guard by their internet fame,” the publication wrote.

Apparently, the couple didn’t even know they were being filmed or put online until they started getting requests for comments!

At the time they said the secret to their success was just having fun.

It’s pretty clear that all of those suggestions to use dance to keep the body limber are pretty spot-on!

And since we know that being part of a community and spending time with like-minded friends can be integral parts of leading a long and healthy life, there will likely be more videos to come from these two.

While COVID-19 has put a halt to many international competitions, the duo is back to teaching at their studio (with proper precautions in place, of course).
